Salary Description
$95,000-$125,000 per year + Benefits
Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Property Management Controller to oversee the full accounting lifecycle of our managed assets. This role is responsible for managing accounting functions including financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, audits, and team leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong technical skills, an understanding of real estate accounting, and the ability to lead and mentor a growing accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight
- Manage all general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, and month-end close processes
- Oversee preparation of property-level and consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and variance reports for managed assets
- Ensure cash flow is appropriately managed across all properties
Reporting & Compliance
- Coordinate annual audits and prepare required schedules for external auditors
- Ensure compliance with client reporting requirements and government regulations (HUD, CTCAC, etc.)
- Create and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures
- Lead year-end 1099, tax coordination, and CAM reconciliations
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor a team of property accountants and accounting assistants
- Provide training, process improvements, and performance oversight
- Support onboarding of new properties and clients, including financial setup and reporting configuration
Technology & Software
- Manage accounting system (Yardi) functionality and enhancements
- Leverage tools for workflow efficiency, document retention, and data accuracy
- Support integrations with third-party platforms (banking, bill pay, payroll)
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in property management or real estate accounting
- 2+ years of experience in a Controller or senior-level accounting role
- Strong understanding of GAAP, accrual-based accounting, and financial audits
- Expertise in Yardi Voyager (REQUIRED)
- Ability to analyze complex financial data and generate accurate reports
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
- Willingness to work on-site in Arcadia office during onboarding (90-day period), with WFH flexibility up to 2 days/week after initial training
