The Team

The Financial Crimes Models & Analytics team within Fidelity's Enterprise Compliance group is responsible for the design, development, and optimization of Fidelity's Financial Crimes detection models. We partner with colleagues across Fidelity to build software and data solutions that support Fidelity's Financial Crimes Compliance programs.

Our team has broad responsibility for the Fidelity Investments transaction monitoring systems across multiple business units. Coverage areas include: Insider Trading, High Risk Money Movement, Elder Financial Exploitation, Low-Priced Securities, Emerging Risks, Cryptocurrency Trading and more. Our team collects and curates data and applies machine learning and emerging technologies to improve Fidelity's surveillance and screening capabilities.

We're seeking a Senior Data Science Engineer to assist with the ongoing transformation of the firm's Financial Crimes Compliance program. If you're passionate about data engineering, data science, and technology to help fight financial crime, then this is an excellent opportunity for you!

The Purpose of Your Role

As a Senior Data Science Engineer, you will own the full development of Financial Crimes models. This includes but is not limited to data analysis, data engineering, feature engineering, and rules-based and machine learning development. You will also work with business partners across various domains to understand and acquire data, as well as our financial technology platforms and business requirements. You will be working with machine learning models, rewriting legacy models, and supporting the data preparation for our reporting efforts. You will develop model performance metrics and make model adjustments accordingly.

The Responsibilities of this role:
  • Develop new features in Snowflake using SQL, DBT and Python that broadens our detection platform, tailored to specific risks
  • Investigate the underlying data that impacts the performance of our models via exploratory data analysis
  • Create robust testing scenarios including unit testing and regression testing
  • Support the Data Scientists in developing AI and machine learning models
  • Explore new technologies, emerging trends and determine their applicability to the team's use cases; orchestrate the adoption of such technologies and trends where appropriate


The Expertise You Have:
  • Excellent proficiency in SQL and Python
  • Expertise in querying various database types, e.g. Snowflake, MongoDB, and Graph databases
  • Curious and self-sufficient in data analysis to develop an understanding in our data systems
  • Experience in the software development cycle from design to implementation to testing, CI/CD, version control management/git, documentation, etc.
  • Experience working with dbt (data build tool) is nice to have
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts
  • Comfort with documenting highly technical solutions
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent technical expertise

The base salary range for this position is $76,000-$144,000 per year.
Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate's relevant experience, and other factors.

Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
