Position Summary

The Regional Director, Operations is a strategic leadership position responsible for the assigned market area. The Regional Director, Operations oversees operational efficiencies, team dynamics, sales and customer relations and retention, financial goals and budgeting and manages overall area business performance. This role will ensure that all locations' responsibilities are completed safely and efficiently using proper company procedures with a safety first attitude.

Core Duties / Key Responsibilities

Operational Management:
  • Implement corporate directives and develop business plans to meet financial objectives
  • Oversee operations for all locations in the area
  • Generate sales and maintain operations of the assigned area
  • Ensure financial goals and targets are met by effectively managing the area business
  • Take ownership and analyze P&L to track regional progress
  • Lead and motivate Operations Area Managers in managing costs
  • Effectively collaborate with leadership and employees to establish goals and standards
  • Ensure area locations are following company policies and procedures
  • Ensure all management reporting is complete, accurate and submitted timely

Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to propane handling and distribution
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures for area
  • Ensure regular safety meetings and training sessions for staff are taking place
  • Be part of investigations and report any safety incidents or violations
  • Maintain professionalism, integrity, security, image and confidentiality of information and records as required by the position
  • Conduct meetings and trainings with managers as required

Personnel Management:
  • Ensure all training and staff evaluations, including drivers, technicians, and administrative personnel are compliant and up to date.
  • Oversee all employee personnel issues and manage appropriately
  • Promote a positive work environment and team morale.
  • Lead Operations Area Managers in HR activities such as hiring, coaching, performance reviews and disciplinary action for their staff
  • Provide training programs, sales techniques and other strategies to direct reports
  • Take responsibility for team regarding all aspects of each individual's daily tasks and actions

Customer Service:
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to customer service and safety
  • Hold team to a high standard of handling customer inquiries, complaints, and service requests in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through efficient service and communication.
  • Manage customer accounts, develop and maintain relationships with key customers and stakeholders
  • Drive sales of new customer accounts, retain current customer accounts

Financial Management:
  • Develop and manage the area's budget.
  • Monitor expenses and ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Prepare and analyze operational reports, making recommendations for improvements.

Logistics Coordination:
  • Oversee strategic and effective logistics for the area


Position Qualifications

Experience/Education

Required Education: Bachelor's degree, advanced degree credits in business management or equivalent management experience required

Required Work Experience:
  • 7+ years of proven work experience in propane distribution or related field
  • Minimum 7 years in management role


Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Microsoft Applications: Moderate to advanced functionality (in particular, Word, Excel and Outlook)

Additional Technology: Exceptional phone skills and computer literacy

Travel: Area and some national travel; CDL license preferred, but not required

Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required

  • Proficiency in logistics and inventory management
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards
  • Ability to develop strong customer relationships and handle customer service issues effectively

  • Effectively manage time
  • Good problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to maintain stability under pressure and be flexible and willing to modify plans when necessary
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the Federal and State DOT regulations
  • Have basic mechanical abilities
  • Ability to be a positive representative of the Company both internally and externally
  • Ability to work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and customers
  • Attend all safety meetings, training and/or in-services.
  • Must be committed to working safely at all times
  • Complete all PERC and other online training in a timely manner.
  • Regular attendance at the worksite is required.

Responsible for 1 Region comprised of about 4 areas, responsible for ~ 200 employees
