EMS Physician Medical Director
Gilchrist County Board of County Commissioners is seeking an experienced EMS Physician Medical Director to provide expert clinical leadership and oversight of our Emergency Medical Services system. This position offers an opportunity to directly influence patient care, protocol development, and EMS provider education in a progressive, evidence-based environment
Position Summary
The EMS Physician Medical Director will serve as the highest clinical authority within the Gilchrist County Fire Rescue system. This individual will lead efforts to ensure excellence in patient care, safety, and provider competence. Responsibilities include oversight of clinical protocols, continuous quality improvement initiatives, and provider education, with a strong emphasis on innovation, data-driven practices, and regulatory compliance.
Gilchrist County Fire Rescue offers a range of services including 911 emergency response, special event medical coverage, and Mobile Integrated Health/Community Paramedicine programs. This role combines clinical leadership with the flexibility and autonomy of contract-based work, ideal for a physician looking to make a meaningful impact in rural pre-hospital care.

Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Oversight & Leadership: Ensure all patient care is aligned with current evidence-based medical standards and best practices.
- System Design & Protocol Development: Lead the development and refinement of EMS protocols to improve clinical outcomes and efficiency.
- Credentialing & Provider Competency: Oversee EMS provider credentialing processes and manage clinical privileges to uphold high standards of care and safety.
- Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI): Design and implement CQI programs to monitor system performance, analyze clinical data, and drive strategic improvements.
- Education & Training: Advocate for and contribute to high-quality, evidence-based education for all Gilchrist County EMS providers, including communication specialists.
- Policy & Regulatory Guidance: Provide expert input on local, state, and national EMS policies, certification standards, and scope-of-practice regulations.
- Advocacy & Research: Support EMS-related research, advocate for system funding, and promote legislative initiatives that enhance EMS services.
- Provider & Patient Well-Being: Champion initiatives that support the mental and physical health of both patients and EMS professionals.
Qualifications
- Board-certified in Emergency Medicine
- Minimum of two years of clinical experience in Emergency Medicine
- Demonstrated leadership in Rural EMS, quality improvement, or system development preferred
Contract & Compensation
- This is a 1099 independent contractor position.
- Compensation is competitive and negotiable, based on qualifications and experience.
- As an independent contractor, the selected candidate will be responsible for their own taxes, benefits, and liability insurance.
