Description:
Job DescriptionAbout This RoleThe BioDesign, BioTherapeutics Discovery & Delivery group at Biogen is seeking a driven and collaborative Senior Scientist focused on advancing next-generation therapeutic strategies for targeted delivery to the brain, muscle, and other tissues. This lab-based role will be central to developing and characterizing biologics, including antibodies, proteins, and oligonucleotide conjugates, designed for improved tissue penetration and pharmacological activity. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in molecular characterization, in vivo pharmacology, and histological analysis. The successful candidate will contribute to both exploratory platform efforts and portfolio programs, playing a key role in generating and characterizing biologic therapeutics, experimental execution, method development, and close cross-functional collaboration. What You'll Do
- Drive the generation and characterization of next-generation therapeutic molecules, including antibodies, proteins, and oligonucleotide conjugates, by applying a broad range of molecular and biochemical techniques to support both discovery efforts and platform advancement.
- Answer critical biological questions by strategically designing and overseeing complex studies to evaluate therapeutic delivery and pharmacodynamic outcomes in key tissues such as brain and muscle, directly shaping experimental direction and translational strategy.
- Analyze pharmacology and tissue biodistribution data to guide candidate prioritization, refine targeting approaches, and influence scientific direction across diverse therapeutic modalities.
- Combine hands-on expertise in bioanalytical methods (e.g., MSD, ELISA, IHC) with high-level coordination of platform initiatives, building sustainable capabilities in tissue-enhanced delivery.
- Drive the continued evolution of the tissue enhanced delivery platform through innovation in receptor targeting, molecular design, and delivery strategies that expand therapeutic access to challenging tissues.
- Communicate scientific findings effectively across interdisciplinary teams, contributing to internal reports, protocols, and strategic discussions that guide platform and pipeline advancement.
- Ph.D. in biochemistry, chemical biology, or a related field with 2-5 years experience, or a Master's degree with 6-8 years relevant industry experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in antibody engineering principles and standard protein characterization techniques (eg. kinetics, stability, epitope binning), particularly in tissue specific delivery to the brain and muscle.
- Proficiency in animal study design, biologics dosing, and tissue analysis methods including, tissue processing, MSD, IHC and image acquisition/quantification.
- Demonstrated ability to independently design, plan, execute, and interpret complex experiments.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and in teams. Capable of managing experimental timelines and collaborating across functions
- Familiarity with CNS or peripheral tissue delivery strategies, including use of shuttle antibodies or receptor-mediated transport, ideally in the context of animal models.
- Experience with complex biologics, including bispecific antibodies, fusion proteins, or engineered scaffolds, designed for enhanced tissue targeting and uptake.
- Experience coordinating studies across internal and external teams or CROs.
