Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:


The Senior Associate Dean for Academics serves as a key executive leader, partnering with the Dean to advance the College's mission through strategic planning and oversight of daily operations. This role focuses on continuous program enhancement and long-term academic planning to meet the evolving needs of the nursing profession, ensuring educational excellence and fostering student success. This position works closely with the Associate/Assistant Deans and Program Chairs, providing leadership, guidance, and faculty development and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
The Senior Associate Dean supports the Dean in representing the college to internal and external stakeholders and serves as the chief academic officer and college leader in the dean's absence.

Primary responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:
  • Promotes collaboration among academic programs, institutional partners, and the broader university community to support interdisciplinary initiatives and partnerships.
  • Develops and implements strategic initiatives to grow, advance, and sustain the College's academic programs.

Academic Excellence including Accreditation and Compliance:
  • Oversees and leads the continuous development, evaluation and improvement of programs curricula and academic offerings, ensuring they meet the highest standards and align with current healthcare trends.
  • Maintains responsibility for academic program compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements, maintaining the College's reputation for excellence.

Faculty Development:
  • Leads and fosters a culture of professional growth among faculty, encouraging innovation in teaching and scholarship, and providing constructive and meaningful feedback to support faculty development and progression.

Success and Flourishing for students, faculty, and staff:
  • Cultivates and oversees programs and partnerships that foster a culture of flourishing, hope, unity, and belonging within the College of Nursing.
  • Champions initiatives that enhance student, faculty and staff recruitment, engagement, retention, and achievement, creating an environment where all team members thrive.

Operational Management:
  • Supports and manages the college's daily operations and promotes effective collaboration and integration across all academic and student support services.

    • Knowledge of subject matter and course content taught.
    • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
    • Demonstrated capacity to engage in high quality scholarly activity.
    • Demonstrated ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students.
    • Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software.
    • Ability to learn relevant sections of BannerWeb, Belmont University's online integrated database system for student grading.
    • Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
    • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    • Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University. Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
    • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.


    Required Education
    A doctorate degree (DNP, PhD) in Nursing is preferred. Consideration will be given to candidates with a terminal degree, or one in progress.

    Required Experience
    Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a variety of academic settings and teaching pedagogies.

    The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
