Position Introduction/Key Duties
Cimarron is seeking a Flight Software Engineering Specialist to design, develop, and integrate flight software for the StarLab program in Houston, TX. The StarLab will be a low Earth orbit (LEO) space station that will serve as a business park for commercial space and space tourism activities! The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in boot software and board support packages (BSP), experience with various operating systems including cFS, and a strong background in developing flight software frameworks, middleware, and shared support libraries used across flight software applications.

Key Duties:
- Contribute to programmatic flight software reviews and provide mentorship to support software quality and pipeline integration.
- Support certification efforts related to flight software infrastructure.
- Present technical topics on flight software to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Apply systems engineering principles to ensure the flight software infrastructure meets stakeholder requirements.
- Perform hands-on software engineering tasks including requirements gathering, code and artifact reviews, design documentation, implementation, and anomaly resolution.
- Support integration, verification, and validation of flight software infrastructure in the system integration lab (SIL).
- Assist with resource planning and development of software schedules and associated metrics.
- Identify technical risks, propose mitigation strategies, and evaluate impacts on schedule and budget.
Required/Desired Skills, Experience, and Education
Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for consideration at this time.
- 10 or more years of software engineering experience within a human-rated, safety-critical, and regulated environment.
- 10 or more years of experience coordinating with distributed teams in a systems engineering capacity.
- 20 or more years of total experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
- Passion for optimizing the systems engineering approach to simultaneously improve efficiency and quality.
- Ability to integrate across a wide range of technical disciplines.
- Embrace and demonstrate the 5 C's of Systems Engineering: Communicate, Collaborate, Cooperate, Coordinate, and Commit.
- Ability to work on complex technical problems and provide highly innovative solutions.
- Bachelor's degree.
