Description:
Amazon Fulfillment Technology (AFT) Global Hardware Systems develops large-scale sensing for Amazon's fulfillment network. As part of the AFT Quality team, the goal of these systems is to collect information that improves Amazon's ability to deliver the right product to its customers.
This role will lead a team of electrical and optical engineers from concept to production across a broad array of programs and sensing technologies with applications in computer vision, machine learning and AI.
Key job responsibilities
- Managing a rigorous engineering organization including critical technical reviews on all aspects
- Owning the delivery of electrical and optical systems on time and on budget, at the targeted performance
- Scoping, managing and delivering multiple technical projects in parallel from concept to production
- Developing and reporting both personnel and technical performance metrics for the hardware development team to peers and executives
- Recruiting and developing great people; continually raising the bar
- Evaluating and identifying improvements to overall design success
- Maintaining a high level of communication with the cross-functional team
- Interfacing with engineering managers, product management, and program management to drive new products into production.
- Maintaining and enhancing the culture of the team and relationships with cross-functional teams

About the team
The AFT Quality Team harmonizes quality and accuracy with speed and scale, by creating self-healing, centralized systems and services which support operations from point of receipt through point of shipment. Our systems support Operations teams, fulfillment, robotics, mechatronics and other partner organizations.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- BS / MS Optical or Electrical Engineering
- Experience in optical/electrical design and management
- Familiar with industry standard design tools, industry trends, and design for manufacturability
- Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a design team
- Ability to manage a process driven development mentality while also balancing time to market
- Commitment to rigorous testing & validation practices
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Desire to work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Optical design, simulation and depth sensing experience
- Track record of developing products for large volume production
- Experience managing challenging assignments with tight schedules
- Experience interfacing with and managing external integrators

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $135,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $234,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
