Process Control Engineer
Location: Houston, TX
Job Type: Full-Time

We are seeking a skilled Process Control Engineer to join our team at our Houston facility. This position is primarily responsible for managing and maintaining the Honeywell Experion PKS control system, Honeywell Safety Manager SC SIS, and associated process control hardware. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proactive approach to system maintenance, project execution, and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Control System Ownership

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all process control systems at the Houston site.

  • Manage maintenance and upgrades of all control systems and hardware components, including network servers, marshalling cabinets, controllers, and I/O modules.

  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies, ensure system health, and plan for future upgrades and lifecycle management.
Vendor and Third-Party Coordination

  • Coordinate with third-party vendors and automation system providers to support system maintenance and project execution.

  • Manage external resources and ensure compliance with site requirements and specifications.
Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Maintenance team to plan and execute hardware modifications and upgrades.

  • Collaborate with the Mechanical Integrity and Process Safety teams to schedule and perform testing of interlock and safety systems.
System Documentation & Infrastructure

  • Maintain and update the site Master I/O database and documentation.

  • Author and update the Process Control Basic Design Infrastructure document, serving as the site-specific standard for internal and third-party work.
Project Support

  • Support internal projects and Management of Change (MOC) efforts by developing process control strategies and hardware requirements.

  • Write process control narratives for new or modified control loops, including vendor-supplied equipment (e.g., heaters, compressors, detectors).

  • Define hardware scope and validate control system deliverables in collaboration with contractors and vendors.

  • Implement alarm system modifications, including changes to setpoints and priorities.
Additional Support (Preferred Skills)

While not required, experience in the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Supporting E&I activities such as loop sheet reviews, junction box capacity checks, and instrument troubleshooting.

  • Assisting with configuration and specification of instrumentation, wiring, and DCS integration.

  • Providing input on instrumentation selection and MCC-related DCS scope during capital projects.
Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required.
Technical Skills

  • Proficiency or the ability to learn and operate the following control systems:

  • Honeywell Experion PKS - operation, programming, and maintenance

  • Honeywell Safety Manager SC - operation, programming, and maintenance

  • Rockwell PlantPAX - operation, programming, and maintenance
Certifications

  • TV Functional Safety Certification - Required
