Overview: We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Strategy and Insights team. The ideal candidate will be adept at building and maintaining robust data pipelines across on-premises and cloud solutions using a variety of ETL tools and programming languages such as Python, Java, and shell scripts. This role requires a professional with expertise in SQL (including query optimization and database modeling), Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and source code management and deployment tools. The Senior Data Engineer will play a key role in creating innovative solutions using industry best practices and overseeing the work of junior developers to ensure high-quality deliverables.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines using ETL tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, and shell scripts)
  • Develop integration solutions leveraging APIs to enable seamless communication between systems
  • Optimize SQL queries for performance and maintain efficient database models to support data solutions
  • Implement and manage data pipelines that rely on streaming data technologies (e.g., Kafka, Spark Streaming)
  • Implement data solutions across on-prem and cloud environments, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability
  • Manage source code repositories and deployment processes using modern tools (e.g., Git, CI/CD pipelines)
  • Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) to automate and manage infrastructure provisioning
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions
  • Adhere to industry best practices in data engineering to ensure high-quality deliverables
  • Conduct code reviews and provide guidance to junior developers, fostering growth and development within the team
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in data pipelines, databases, and infrastructure
  • Stay informed on the latest trends and technologies in data engineering, APIs, and streaming data

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer or similar role, with a focus on building data pipelines across on-prem and cloud environments
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, including query optimization and database modeling
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, and shell scripting
  • Hands-on experience with ETL tools and frameworks
  • Proficiency in developing integration solutions leveraging APIs
  • Expertise in streaming data technologies (e.g., Kafka, Spark Streaming)
  • Proficiency in source code management and deployment tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins, Docker)
  • Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation)
  • Solid understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills and ability to mentor junior team members effectively

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)
  • Knowledge of data modeling and database management systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL)
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Kubernetes)

The salary range for this role is $80,000 to $160,000 or the hourly equivalent.
