Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Tax, the Tax Manager will work closely with both the Director and external service providers. This role is responsible for supporting all fund- and property-level tax compliance activities. Key responsibilities include tax structuring and managing the overall tax process, including coordinating with external tax teams to prepare partnership returns and issue K-1s.
This position offers an opportunity for a highly motivated and organized individual to become a key member of the tax team, contributing to all aspects of tax compliance and planning. The ideal candidate will have experience in real estate and/or private equity tax.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with managing the tax compliance process for all Northwood Funds, including US and European investments.
- Assist with tax structuring and strategic tax planning across the Northwood Funds and operating platforms.
- Coordinate information requests and communicate with business team, external advisors, and investors.
- Document research findings in written memorandum and the ability to present to Senior Executive Staff.
- Analyze transactions and prepare projections of taxable income.
- Apply understanding of private REIT requirements and testing methods, and maintain quarterly and annual REIT compliance.
- Prepare and maintain organizational charts.
- Analyze and review legal documents, including maintenance of related internal records.
- Track and respond to federal, state, and local tax notices. Assist with IRS audits.
- Oversee and maintain partner non-resident withholding records and computations.
- Assist with FATCA and CRS compliance and maintenance.
- Identify concerns, research and resolve tax, accounting and business issues.
- Review tax law changes in all jurisdictions and assess the impact on existing investments and future structuring, including potential tax law and legislative changes at the Federal, state, and international level.
- Assist with researching current and emerging tax issues.
- Maintain fixed asset records for portfolio investments.
- Organize and maintain internal tax files.
- Special projects, including automation initiatives alongside our Data & Analytics team.
The Successful Applicant
Must have the following key attributes:
- A minimum of a BS in Accounting, with exposure to taxation courses preferred.
- Knowledge of GAAP, tax compliance, Internal Revenue Code and regulations.
- 4 - 8 years of experience in tax, with significant public accounting experience preferred.
- Advanced MS Excel skills with exceptionally strong attention to detail.
- Effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic, growing environment.
- Ability to take ownership and responsibility for new and ongoing tasks.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Maintain and observe the highest professional ethical standards and confidentiality.
- Strong project management, organizational skills and outstanding problem solving skills.
- Experience managing engagements and teams of professionals.
- Ability to foster effective teamwork.
- Must be able to travel based on business needs.
