Purpose: The R&D Laboratory Development Engineer will support process and equipment in our staple manufacturing line development laboratory and for our prototype builds, for New Product Development, Life Cycle Engineering (LCE), and Robotics and Digital solutions (RAD). These activities include system development, maintenance, calibration and process and operational support of the equipment and laboratory environments while maintaining compliance.

Job Description:

You will be responsible for:
In accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:
- Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for all surgical staple manufacturing and pilot build equipment providing technical guidance and support to ensure performance.
- Serve as the SME for calibration processes and preventive maintenance, ensuring alignment to industry standards for maintaining equipment uptime and reliability, in order to meet team milestones.
- Assist in the identification, development, and implementation of equipment improvements to improve efficiency and performance in R&D activities.
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams to design, optimize, and validate processes, ensuring alignment with engineering standards and project objectives.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including user manuals, technical specifications, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment and processes.
- Provide training and mentorship to engineering and technical staff on equipment functionality, standard processes, and problem-solving techniques to develop a culture of teamwork.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and quality control measures in all engineering practices and R&D projects.
- Stay ahead of advancements in engineering practices, technologies, and equipment relevant to the research and development field.
- Ensure strict consistency to Good Documentation Practices (GDP) to maintain compliance and uphold quality standards in regulated environments.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in a highly regulated technical environment, with a strong understanding of compliance standards.
- Background in equipment maintenance, production processes, or relevant technical experience within R&D settings.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and effectively solve sophisticated technical problems in a laboratory environment.
- Solid understanding of Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and quality systems.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in multi-functional teams.
- Proficient in generating and managing technical documentation, including standard operating procedures and maintenance records.
- Ability to lead multiple priorities and work efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Personal computer software - Windows: word processing, project planning, presentation, e-mail & spreadsheet software
