What is the opportunity?
The Director of Planning & Analytics is responsible for guiding data driven decision making across the organization and optimizing organizational performance. The ideal candidate possesses a blend of sector expertise, strategic vision, business acumen, and leadership skills, ensuring that the organization leverages data and analytics for optimal performance, growth, and innovation. This role collaborates with key partners including executive leadership, operational leaders, underwriting partners as well as key distribution partners. This position also works closely with Underwriting, CFO and the CEO to drive enterprise-wide product pricing initiatives. It requires building relationships and influencing at all levels of the organization, through persuasion and collaboration abilities to achieve consensus and achieve desired outcomes.
What will you do?
Drive strategic decision-making and operational efficiency through data analysis, operational planning, and KPI development, tracking, and reporting.
Oversee the collection and interpretation of data to provide actionable insights across internal departments and external partners.
Lead pricing analysis to ensure competitive positioning and profitability, supporting pricing strategies in collaboration with Underwriting and Executive leadership.
Evolve the pricing model to identify trends, loss ratios, and segment profitability, enhancing pricing discipline and go-to-market strategies.
Support Underwriting and Product Development with pricing analytics for new product launches and enhancements.
Conduct financial, market, and operational analysis to identify, assess, and prioritize growth and optimization opportunities.
Lead development of enterprise-wide reporting packages (e.g., executive dashboards, business insights) to evaluate performance and inform decision-making.
Improve enterprise-wide use of data to generate actionable insights that guide performance and identify new opportunities.
Recommend strategies to Executive leadership to drive revenue growth, cost efficiency, and performance enhancements.
Monitor progress and evaluate results, recommending adjustments to ensure achievement of business objectives.
Lead research and analytics to identify opportunities and risks, acting as a thought partner to the business.
Influence strategy through data-driven insights and fact-based recommendations.
Lead organizational business planning and cross-functional collaboration to align business plans and optimize resource allocation.
Ensure analytics findings are integrated into business planning and execution for maximum strategic impact.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop data-driven initiatives that promote business growth and operational excellence.
Partner with Marketing to support acquisition and retention strategies using data, consumer research, and engagement tactics.
Implement operational process improvements to enhance efficiency across departments.
Manage team participation and deliverables for initiatives, projects, and ad hoc requests.
What do you need to succeed?
Advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA or MBA considered an asset.
Proven experience (10+ years) in financial planning and analysis, strategic planning, stakeholder management and business analytics.
Previous leadership experience required.
Knowledge of the Canadian P&C insurance landscape strongly preferred.
Competencies: Financial and operational analysis, stakeholder management, data analysis and interpretation, broad based understanding of pricing , strategic planning, leadership and team management, process improvement, and risk management.
