Job Purpose
Assist in performing mechanical inspections, analysis, and reporting within the scope of Engineering Services. The role involves mechanical system evaluations, design of remedial recommendations, and preparation of reports to ensure code compliance, safety, and high-quality engineering outcomes. The Project Engineer will support the delivery of design and inspection services related to mechanical (HVAC Systems), with supplementary experience in plumbing & fire protection systems design.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Perform in-depth analysis of mechanical systems, including field investigations and evaluations.
Conduct research, interpret relevant building codes, and write detailed engineering reports.
Design remedial solutions and prepare technical documents and drawings.
Coordinate and conduct mechanical inspections for engineering assessments.
Collaborate with the MEP team to ensure conformance with design intent and applicable codes.
Support commissioning activities and oversee mechanical system performance evaluations.
Prepare and review construction-related documents including scopes of work and specifications.
Assist in resolving construction challenges related to mechanical system design and installation.
Visit job sites to conduct assessments and monitor project conditions.
Participate in project meetings, including pre-design and construction coordination.
Identify high-level technical and coordination issues and engage appropriate professionals when beyond current expertise-escalate and resolve technical matters promptly.
Accurately log time and contribute to project financial performance.
Engage in continual learning and development in mechanical systems and code updates.
Professionally sign and seal all work produced.
And other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Professional Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
A Master's degree is preferred but not required.
Professional Engineer (PE) License in the State of Florida (required).
Valid Florida Driver's License and reliable transportation (required).
Minimum Experience
At least 7.5 years of experience in mechanical systems design.
Strong background in Mechanical (HVAC Systems), with knowledge in plumbing and fire protection systems design.
Proficient in writing technical reports and applying mechanical codes.
Skills and Abilities
Excellent English writing and communication skills.
Knowledge of relevant mechanical codes and standards.
Strong project coordination and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
Competent in conducting fieldwork and interpreting mechanical system data.
Physical Demands*
Necessary to perform the assigned duties safely and effectively:
Ability to sit with back at a 90-degree angle for up to 8 hours per day.
Ability to look at a computer for up to 8 hours per day.
Ability to stand upright for up to 8 hours per day.
Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas (uneven terrain, exposure to outdoor weather elements)
Bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, laying, crawling, and twisting required up to 30% of the time in this role.
Must be able to ride in a hoist and/or swing stage.
Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds at times.
Must be able to use right and left foot for repetitive movements as in operating controls or levers.
Full dexterity of wrists and fingers required with repetitive motions.
Must be able to see near, in the distance, color, depth, and range.
*Safety equipment, including but not limited to hard hat, OSHA approved footwear, safety glasses and safety vests, is always required while performing job functions on active construction sites. Safety gloves, ear plugs, and safety harness will be issued when appropriate. *Riding in a hoist and/or in a swing stage to be performed under strict adherence to the OSHA standards. Climbing ladders and scaffolds to be performed under strict adherence to the OSHA standards.
