Residency Employees are required to reside within50 miles of the corporate limits of city of Decatur. Upon initial appointment, employees may reside outside these limits but must comply with the residency requirement within 12 months to maintain employment.

PENSION: Employees of the City of Decatur contribute to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) at the rate of 4.5% per pay. The City of Decatur also contributes a percentage for the employee each pay. Employee contributions are refundable if employment ends before retirement.
OTHER: The City offers a three-tier health insurance plan for employees and their dependents. Employees contribute toward the monthly premium for single coverage and/or family coverage through payroll deduction. The City provides a life insurance policy at one times the annualized salary plus an additional $5,000 at no cost to the employee. Dependent coverage is offered. Employees may purchase additional term life on a voluntary basis. Employees also may purchase additional term life insurance sponsored by IMRF. Employees may contribute to a Flexible Spending Account for Medical and/or Dependent Care Expenses. Employees may participate in a voluntary group dental and vision insurance plan. Deferred compensation is also available.

Key Responsibilities
Technology Support & Systems Management
- Provides on-site support for all end-user equipment and software at police headquarters
- Supports Mobile Computer Terminals (MCTs) and camera systems in and around patrol vehicles
- Oversees installation of specialized computer and technology equipment in police vehicles, coordinating with Fleet Maintenance staff
- Manages, monitors, and assists with the creation of software interfaces used by City employees to access police data
- Administers and maintains the performance, access, and security of all police data and information systems
- Manages the secondary IT data center located at the police station in collaboration with IT staff
Security & Data Compliance
- Ensures secure storage, access, and dissemination of police data in compliance with CJIS standards
- Maintains infrastructure and data security standards for evidence data accumulation and storage
- Develops and enforces standards for the creation, maintenance, and sharing of police data
- Supports disaster-recovery planning and testing
Collaboration & Coordination
- Coordinates police IT functions and secure data transfers with federal, state, county, and other municipal agencies
- Serves as a data advisor on special projects involving the transfer of secure information to external agencies
Strategic Planning & Vendor Management
- Determines budget needs and supports long-range planning for police technology systems
- Manages vendor relationships and monitors purchasing or maintenance contracts and agreements
- Assists with research and preparation of grants or other non-City funding sources for police technology initiatives
- Establishes and implements technology strategies aligned with City goals
Needed Knowledge & Skills
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Analysis, or related field - or equivalent relevant experience
- Minimum of five years of experience administering computer systems and solutions
- Minimum of five years of experience troubleshooting and maintaining end-user computer equipment
Technical Skills
- Experience managing and administering iOS and Android devices
- Broad knowledge of IT support and systems management (preferred)
Law Enforcement IT Knowledge
- Experience supporting IT solutions in a law enforcement environment (preferred)
- CJIS certification (preferred)
