Description:
We're seeking a technical leader to drive our Software Defined Infrastructure (SDI) initiatives and open-source networking strategy. As a Software Development Manager, you'll lead a team transforming network infrastructure through SDI implementations across Amazon's global fulfillment networks.
This is a high ownership role with significant scope, we value your ideas and are looking for people who want to help innovate.
Our mission is to design, deploy, and support networks that sets the global standard for performance, availability, security and cost, enabling Fulfillment and Logistic operations to deliver on time, every customer order. The team is focused on creating in-house networks from leveraging open source tools and projects. We partner closely with IT support teams to ensure that simplicity in our product designs translate to supportability in the field. Information security rigor is at the core of everything we do. You will tackle complex, novel situations every day and have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. You should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. The right candidate will have demonstrated experience leading large projects and have an expert level technical background in current networking technologies. As the ideal candidate for this role, you will have experience in native AWS with leading edge technologies. You will have a broad understanding of cloud and information systems concepts including, but not limited to cloud infrastructure, design and AWS. The ability to build productive relationships with colleagues and customers at remote sites around the world will make you successful in this role, as will patience and a sense of humor

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market.
