Shift: Four ten-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, staffing mid-shifts to evenings, not past 2230
Hours per Shift: 10 hours
Experience: Minimum of 2 years required
License: Current nursing license required
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS
Must-Have:
EPIC experience required
Pediatric experience required
Experience traveling and providing care for both children and adults
Preference for candidates from large hospitals with at least 2 years in PACU
Description:
This position involves working in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit.
The unit consists of 31 beds with two phases of recovery areas.
Patients of all ages will be recovered in this unit, including pediatric patients.
Common cases include a variety of surgical specialties such as total joints, neuro, cardiac, plastics, and endoscopy.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, following ASPAN standards.
Staffing includes 25-26 RNs during peak hours and additional support overnight and weekends.
Charge nurses rarely take patient assignments, allowing them to focus on oversight and support.
Nursing assistants are available to assist with patient transport and basic care needs.
RNs are responsible for reading heart strips electronically.
Shifts cannot be self-scheduled, and options for three-day weekends are available.
Floating to other areas is rare and would only occur in certain circumstances.
Blue scrubs are provided for this role.
Orientation will cover the three recovery areas over a few days.
The department promotes a positive work environment with camaraderie among staff.
Opportunities for contract extension are available, as the unit often utilizes traveling staff.
Communication with the anesthesia team and surgeons is facilitated through a designated phone system.
