Your Opportunity:
The Lethbridge Child, Youth and Family Mental Health and Addiction Team is looking to recruit a 1.0 FTE temporary (1-year) mental health therapist. This position will provide mental health services to children, youth and families who attend the Child and Youth Mental Health Day Treatment Program. This program runs out of the Chinook Regional Hospital and supports a maximum of 5 clients within the program at one time. The job requirements include assessment, collaborative treatment planning, therapeutic interventions, case management, presenting case consultations at psychiatric meetings and supporting youth outings in the community. Therapeutic interventions will include but are not limited to individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy and psychoeducational skill-building with children youth and families. Working from a trauma-informed perspective the incumbent may provide consultation and therapeutic direction to community partners and child advocacy centres and will support capacity building in allied professionals. Collaboration with the hospital school program as well the home/community school is an important part of this role. Some evening work may be required to meet the needs of children, youth, families and communities. The Mental Health Therapist performs other related duties as directed by the Child, Youth and Family Mental Health and Addiction Service Manager or his/her designate. Description:
As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.
Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:
A minimum of two years of mental health experience (5 years preferred) in a community or hospital setting with children, youth and families. Competency in trauma-informed care is demonstrated. Competency in family therapy is demonstrated. Competency in computer skills and virtual service delivery is demonstrated. Completion of one of the following programs will be considered: Bachelor of Social Work including training and experience in mental health assessment and psychotherapy and who have psychosocial intervention authorization. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy or, a) Related Master's degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or b) considerable experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nursing with a) related Master's degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or b) experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Authorization to do mental health psycho-social intervention is required. Equivalent education and/or experience will be considered.
