The Speech-Language Pathology Team is a dynamic service across all hospital programs. We are seeking an experienced clinician to provide assessment and management for adults with swallowing and communication disorders. This role will provide corporate clinical coverage across inpatient units (medicine, surgical, critical care) and emergency department as a corporate Float, working Sunday through Thursday.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary role of a Speech-Language Pathologist is to provide evaluation and management of swallowing and communication disorders. This includes coordinating and consulting with other relevant team members as needed, and providing ongoing education, counseling, and training as appropriate to staff, patients, families, and other caregivers to manage the disorder(s).

Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care

Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, and members of the academic and professional community

Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families

Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care

Is committed to and participates in ongoing quality improvement in the organization

Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards

Is committed to providing anti oppressive and accessible care for all patients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be currently licensed by and in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) for practice in all applicable clinical areas.

Must hold a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology (or equivalent).

Current BLS (or willingness to complete within probationary period).

Experience with assessment and management of communication and swallowing for medical-surgical patients of various disease presentation, and with tracheostomy tubes is preferred.

Experience with videofluoroscopy, and holds current certification or is willing to obtain training in Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImp) training.

Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills.

Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care.

Demonstrated advocacy, commitment to and involvement with profession preferred (e.g. involvement with professional association, representation on relevant committees).
