Royal Caribbean Group's Corporate Communications Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Lead, Corporate Communications reporting to the Senior Manager, Sustainability & Destination Communications.

This role will work onsite in Miami, Florida.

Position Summary:

Royal Caribbean group is looking for a dynamic, passionate, creative, and well-connected communications professional to join the Corporate Communications team. The Lead of U.S. West Coast Communications will report into the Senior Manager of Corporate Communications for the U.S., Mxico, and LATAM, helping to lead on external, proactive and reactive (issues management/brand/reputational issues) communications on behalf of the company, including serving in an advisory capacity to senior executives. The ideal candidate will be a strong relationship-builder within and outside of the company, working in concert with key stakeholders to build on core strategies and execute against them in-markets. The position will require strong overall communications skills, a high level of emotional intelligence, strong media relations and issues management knowledge, and the skills and experience to build and cultivate relationships with local media, public officials, community organizations, partner organizations, consumers, and other in-market stakeholders. Must have strong flexibility and adaptability to quick changes and the ability to work in a highly matrixed organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage and execute strategies and tactics to build, defend, and advance Royal Caribbean Group's positive reputation and mitigate against negative media stories.
  • Support and drive a comprehensive, company-wide branded project alongside Government Relations, Community Relations, in-market partners, public officials, nonprofits, and universities to help strengthen the public and key stakeholders' perception of the company. Must have strong programmatic, organizational, and operational skillset.
  • Support the communication efforts of programmatic efforts, events, partnerships and campaigns with local public officials, agencies, community leaders, nonprofits, and other relevant organizations.
  • Identify and anticipate trends, take initiative in proactive storytelling, as well as be opportunistic in sourcing, developing, and placing high-impact media stories and thought leadership that demonstrate the RCG difference in cruising.
  • Lead and coordinate proactive communications programs, which may include special events, product and ship launches, promotions, press trips, press conferences, and executive briefings, working directly with brand and agency teams.
  • Independently develops and executes appropriate strategies to address communications challenges.
  • Excellent writing skills and creative mindset: press release writing, story narrative and message creation, etc.
  • Proven experience in a strategic leadership role, managing numerous internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong ability to interact with senior executive team and build effective relationships within the company, public, guests and media.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal hours and travel as appropriate (domestic & international)
  • Excellent relationship builder - ability to create, foster and leverage relationships to achieve outstanding results.
  • Experience of managing relationships with a PR agency
  • Good presence - able to quickly gain the confidence of senior management.
  • Matrix and multi-national organization experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in planning and implementing integrated PR campaigns with a proven impact on the bottom line.
  • Serve as a spokesperson in West Coast, handling local media inquiries and public relations matters with the aim of enhancing our brand's reputation.
  • Responsible for media inquiry responses -- including during incident and crisis management and facilitate media interviews.
  • Write and edit press materials including media pitches, press releases, fact sheets, media statements and executive talking points or speeches.


Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English or related field preferred.
  • 5-7 years communications experience in corporate, public affairs, or public relations agency, preferably in a public company.
  • Excellent track record of working effectively with the media, including demonstrated success in executing earned media campaigns.
  • Knowledge and adherence to AP Style.
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills for different formats including announcements, statements, press releases, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective communication content requiring minimal editing and rework.
  • Strong planning capabilities to identify and prioritize communication strategies and activities as well as to meet the deadlines required to support media and business needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to interact with senior executives and build effective relationships within the company and media.
  • Ability to manage multiple and constantly changing priorities, and work under pressure; comfortability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience delivering communications strategies and tactics with measurable results.
  • Proactive and takes initiative. Functions effectively, both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a highly collaborative team.
