Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY:
The Process Engineering Manager will select and apply engineering techniques and procedures to improve efficiencies and reduce costs in order to optimize production.
Direct reports as appropriate to area of responsibility.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure compliance to all safety policies and procedures. Establish, support and maintain a "safety first" culture. Accountable for the safety of all employees for whom they are responsible through active engagement in safety activities and by providing clear, consistent communication of safe work expectations.
Assume responsibility for assigned projects. Involve and utilize the appropriate resources to achieve objectives.
Directs the efforts of direct reports through good managerial skills and established goals in order to produce positive results.
Plans and directs the process engineering operations of the entire Nashville site.
Manages the assigned process engineers in investigating and resolving manufacturing issues, making recommendations for preventive action, optimizing current products and processes and commercializing new products.
Ensures the proper training and development of all assigned employees for whom they are responsible.
Support the current Quality Management System and pursue recognizable or identified opportunity for improvement.
Demonstrate good judgment and strong decision-making skills to trouble shoot problematic situations.
Works closely with internal and / or external customers to define requirements and translate them into measurable objectives.
Apply statistical techniques to solve problems and improve process control and capability by analyzing and measuring data and monitoring progress, as appropriate.
Define process specifications, which include machinery set-ups, operating conditions, set points, tolerances, processing procedures and packaging specifications based on a strong understanding of customer requirements.
Defines and reports opportunities for product reliability improvements, as necessary.
Works closely with the Operations Manager(s) to recommend and justify needed equipment upgrades or modifications.
Determine process capabilities to improve productivity and efficiencies, where applicable.
Serves as a resource on plant technologies and raw materials.
Serves as a resource on FMEA's, change management, design experiments, Six Sigma and other process control tools.
Support other functional groups as required and other duties as assigned.
Supervision Given: Assists and oversees assigned functional group. Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include; interviewing, hiring and training employees, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints.
Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Education: BS in engineering or equivalent, or five or more years related experience and / or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous supervision and project management experience preferred. Must have an in-depth understanding of chemical properties within the plastic industry.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience preferably in Flexographic printing and/or Polymer Extrusion. Experience in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, ISO, Six Sigma is a plus. Successful supervisory and team leadership experience is required.
COMPETENCIES:
Knowledge of and skills in the use of cast extrusion and/or flexographic printing presses and processes. Also works with office machines (computer and copier) and business procedures. Strong computer aptitude and experience. Intimate knowledge of Microsoft Office required. Database development experience a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in an office and manufacturing environment with contact with customers.
EFFORT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, process, and procedure manuals. Ability to write technical reports and routine correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate and apply statistical analysis to data associated with the process department.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands: Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent contact with others. Requires walking, standing, prolonged sitting and frequent bending, stooping and stretching, manual dexterity. Ability to distinguish letters, occasional lifting, and the use of office equipment.
