The Discovery Tech team helps customers discover and engage with new, popular and relevant products across Amazon worldwide. We do this by combining technology, science, innovation and creativity to build new customer-facing features and experiences alongside tools for marketers. You will be responsible for creating and building critical services that automatically generate, target, and optimize Amazon's cross-category marketing and merchandising. Through the enablement of intelligent marketing campaigns that leverage machine-learning models, you will help to deliver the best possible shopping experience for Amazon's customers all over the globe.

We're seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead our Strategic Programs charter within Amazon's US Prime & Marketing Systems organization. This role will drive technical innovation across critical discovery and monetization initiatives that have potential to become billion dollar businesses and directly impact customer experience and business growth, The charter combines several high-priority investments focused on improving product discovery, brand experiences, and advertising relevance across Amazon's key shopping surfaces.

Key job responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
\tLead and grow a team of software engineers working on complex discovery and recommendation systems
\tManage engineers to plan, design, and deliver complex systems and architecture improvements
\tCreate vision, technical strategies, and roadmaps for multiple workstreams
\tDrive the delivery of customer-facing features that support business objectives
\tArchitect scalable systems that power personalized shopping experiences across events, gifting, and collections
\tManage operations, scaling, performance, and availability of services
\tEstablish key engineering and operational mechanisms to ensure team success
\tOwn all business and operational metrics for your team's software
\tCollaborate with senior engineers to develop technology and architectural roadmaps
\tPartner with product, science, business, and technology teams across Amazon to drive alignment and make high-judgment decisions
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility and often ambiguous environment
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience in many disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
