Position Overview:
Provides standard maternity care and counseling to expectant women, including pregnancy, labor, comfort measures and pain management, delivery, caesarean birth (C-section), birth alternatives, postpartum, baby care, and tools to use during childbirth. Manages the medical care of patients throughout the maternity cycle, including the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum and gynecological phases. Delivers age and specialty appropriate patient diagnosis, treatments/procedures, education, consultation and follow-up. Follows ambulatory care and inpatient standardized procedures, protocols, policy and procedures regulated by the State of California Nurse Practice Act.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
PATIENT CARE
Provides routine and emergency antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care to obstetric patients following the age appropriate plan as designated by Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP) protocols and standards.
Manages women's primary care, including patient history assessments, physical examinations, laboratory tests, diagnoses, treatments, and health education to deliver quality care in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
Directs patient/family/patient support group care according to established protocols, policies, and procedures to ensure the best patient/family/patient support group experience.
Completes accurate and comprehensive charting on each patient encounter, including submitting charges in an appropriate time frame.
Consults with MD and/or other healthcare providers, as appropriate, to provide comprehensive, seamless and integrated quality care.
Participates in the case management of high-risk programs.
QUALITY
Maintains knowledge of theory, principles, and techniques related to all aspects of obstetric care as demonstrated by adherence to the prenatal care standards and core measures, and attendance at continuing education classes and inservices.
Upholds the strictest confidence of all patient protected health information (PHI) and protects all PHI from accidental, intentional, or inappropriate disclosure.
Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with confidentiality and medical/legal reporting requirements (such as the Joint Commission (JCAHO) and Title 22), and other significant regulations and ethical standards.
Fosters a positive relationship between women and Sutter Health, physicians, other healthcare providers, and the community.
COLLABORATION
Develops positive, effective working relationships with Health Care team members, providing information, consultation, and collaboration to assist in resolution of patient care issues
Responds quickly to requests, encourages feedback and keeps others informed of progress on work activities to ensure efficient coordination of interrelated activities
Resolves problems related to work assignments and department services in a timely and effective manner, flexibly adapting to changes in the work environment and appropriately responding to urgent situations.
Establishes and maintains positive, effective relationships with other hospital departments, medical staff, and community entities.
Actively participates in the CPSP and Sweet Success Case Management and Collaborative Care committees.
Establishes positive rapport with patients, families or support group.
OTHERS
Travel in accordance with job requirements.
Build collaborative relationships with other healthcare providers (physicians, nurses, etc.) to coordinate efforts and provide the highest quality of patient care.
Prioritize and delegate assignments under varied/urgent conditions and work based on experience, procedures, policies, and best practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Master's: nursing
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:
RN-Registered Nurse of California
CNM-Certified Nurse Midwife OR NM-Nurse Midwife
BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
Certification required based on the department requirements
DEPARTMENT REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURES
Department, Delivery: NMF-Nurse Midwife Furnishing within 90 days
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
5 years of recent relevant experience.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Demonstrated expertise and technical competency in the medical care of pregnant women, including a solid knowledge of community resources and referrals and basic sonogram evaluation skills.
Working understanding of the dynamics and intervention techniques related to stressful or crisis, high-risk prenatal situations.
Awareness of available substance abuse and diabetic programs, in addition to standard Perinatal Education offerings (classes, materials, etc.)
Solid analytical and project management skills, including the ability to analyze problems, reach practical conclusions, and institute effective changes.
Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain medical lab results or sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences.
General computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, a laboratory information systems (LIS) to place orders/receive results, and EPIC to create/update patient electronic health records.
Work independently as well as be part of an interdisciplinary team, while demonstrating exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Influence individuals or groups with different opinions and to enlist cooperation without direct control or authority.

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
