THE PROJECT
- Leveraging cloud infrastructure, Linux Operating System (OS) and Splunk to deliver enterprise level infrastructure and applications using DevOps principles and Agile methodologies, the Sponsor requires engineering support for the Sponsor's specialized systems, comprised of a combination of COTS and GOTS software, for the operation and maintenance of enterprise infrastructure.
- Performing Data and Cloud Analytics through the ingesting of data from multiple sources and enriching data based on dynamic enrichment sources. The Sponsor requires support specializing in the development, execution, and maintenance of Cloud Analytics using Splunk while managing a moderate to heavy workload.
- Leveraging the Linux as a fundamental component to thousands of hosts deployed across the enterprise, the Sponsor is developing, deploying, and operating deterministic configuration management tools to ensure compliance with security requirements and adapt to new mission requirements along with leveraging information security support specializing in Nessus.
- Supporting specialized software development and software operations and maintaining (O&M) for new and legacy code on a Linux platform. The Sponsor is upgrading its legacy enterprise system that provides system health and status; allows command and control of hardware devices; performs system startup, shutdown and isolation; and provides inventory and layout.
THE ROLE
- Update and patch the Sponsor's enterprise Linux baseline.
- Ensure updates to enterprise Linux baseline adhere to the Sponsor's architectural requirements and Sponsor's change management process and are properly tested prior to deployment.
- Perform break and fix analysis of Linux related issues and aid Sponsor stakeholders in Linux troubleshooting.
- Maintain Linux Servers within the Sponsor enterprise including provisioning servers.
- Write and code customer scripts or programs using Python, Bash, C/C++.
- Integrate, test, and support mission applications using the enterprise Linux baseline.
- Utilize Nessus and other security applications to conduct system scans to ensure compliance with Sponsor's A&A requirements.
- Evaluate and report results of system security scans as part of the Sponsor's A&A compliance process.
- Implement changes to Linux operating system baseline based on Sponsor requirements.
- Provide management support to the Sponsor Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) process.
- Support Sponsor's representatives in cloud environment purchase, engineering, and architecture related activities as applicable to applications.
- Assist the Sponsor's product owner with the assessment of program requirements.
- Assist the Sponsor's product owner with mitigating or avoiding risks.
- Assist the Sponsor's product owner in alleviating program issues.
- Track work requirements and action items to meet program deadlines.
- Support tasks requiring collecting, compiling, evaluating, and publishing information and statistical data included in documents, records, forms, reports, plans, policies, and regulations.
- Interface with stakeholders to ensure user stories are recorded.
- Deliver development requirements as requested by the Sponsor.
- Use a Sponsor-approved tracking system for issues and problems.
- With Sponsor oversight, implement changes to the current applications and systems based on changing partner requirements, legislation, and policy.
- Maintain current system software.
- With Sponsor oversight, enhance current system software.
- With Sponsor concurrence, implement new functionality to system software.
- Conduct functionality testing for existing applications.
- Develop applications and modifications to existing Sponsor applications in compliance with the Sponsor's architectural and A&A process.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated expertise managing Linux Servers (RHEL, CENTOS) in an enterprise environment.
- Demonstrated expertise using deterministic configuration management tools (Puppet, Ansible).
- System monitoring experience (memory, processes) via Linux command line (using commands such as top and ps).
- Demonstrated Linux troubleshooting skills (networking, file systems, repositories, configuration files, etc.) and ability to work with customers to identify and resolve issues.
- Demonstrated expertise provisioning and operating Linux servers or virtual machines in accordance with organizational compliance requirements.
Desired Skills (Optional)
- Experience scripting in Bash, Ruby or Python.
- Demonstrated expertise with Continuous Integration and Continuous Testing.
- Familiarization with VMWare and RAID configurations.
- Familiarization with DISA STIG, MITRE CVE list, NIST IAVA list and other security guidance.
- Certifications (any or all of the certifications listed):
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator.
- Red Hat Certified System Engineer.
