Job Title: Surgical Technician III
Job Specialty: FS
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Days 5x8 Hr
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Experience: 2 years of relevant experience required
License: Graduation from an accredited school/program for Surgical Technicians
Certifications:
- Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association
- Certified Surgical Technologist issued by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Training (NCCT) required within six months of hire
Must-Have:
- Sufficient computer skills to check and respond to emails and edit preference cards
Job Description:
- Provide technical assistance to operating room physicians and nurses during complex surgical procedures
- Utilize physician's preference cards to prepare the operating room for surgical procedures and maintain/update them as needed
- Maintain an adequate supply of instruments and supplies to meet patient's changing needs
- Scrub in and set up instruments and supplies prior to procedures
- Prepare a sterile field by obtaining, opening, and arranging instruments and supplies anticipated for procedures
- Assist in draping the patient and operative area
- Collaborate with nurses to open and prepare the sterile field
- Assist in the correct identification of operative specimens for laboratory analysis
- Remain attentive during surgery and provide additional instruments, supplies, or other items as needed
- Ensure the sterile field is maintained and recognize/correct breaks in sterile technique
- Deliver medications to the surgeon
- Participate in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as directed by policy
- Report all drains, packs, implants, etc., to the circulating nurse and assist with the application of dressings
- Inform appropriate personnel of any potential problems regarding patients or procedures
- Take emergency action as required
- Assist with the post-operative processing of instruments and equipment
- Clean operating room areas and dispose of sharps from sterile field according to policy
- Participate in the evaluation of new products, methods, or equipment to determine quality
- Serve as a clinical resource for physicians and staff in other departments
- Conduct daily discussions with the Supervisor regarding service line needs, including equipment issues, instrument needs, and supply shortages
- Act as a liaison between physicians and Supervisor regarding instruments and supplies
- Work with other departments and vendors to learn about new equipment and ensure that tools and supplies are updated
- Assist in the training of Surgical Technicians
- Assist with patient transport as needed
- Perform related work as required
