Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Controls Engineer to support automation and data infrastructure in a precision tooling shop that designs and manufactures High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) dies for the aluminum industry. This individual will be responsible for developing and maintaining control systems, HMI/SCADA interfaces, and data platforms, with a strong focus on leveraging Ignition, Xtal, and database tools to drive real-time insights and process improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Design, program, and maintain PLC-based control systems and HMI interfaces for CNCs, EDMs, robotics, and support equipment
  • Work with Ignition SCADA and Xtal platforms to build, deploy, and maintain custom dashboards, real-time data displays, and event-driven automations
  • Integrate OPC/UA communication protocols to connect shopfloor equipment to centralized systems for monitoring and control
  • Manage SQL and time-series databases used for logging process parameters, machine status, energy usage, and performance trends
  • Create user-friendly dashboards and reporting tools to visualize key KPIs, including machine uptime, tool utilization, cycle times, and predictive maintenance alerts
  • Develop and maintain system-level documentation including logic diagrams, control panel layouts, network architecture, and database structures
  • Support integration of CMMS, MES, and other enterprise systems with shopfloor equipment and data layers
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to identify automation opportunities and implement smart manufacturing solutions
  • Stay current with Industry 4.0 / IIoT technologies and recommend solutions for increased system visibility and efficiency


Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in controls systems within a manufacturing, tooling, or industrial automation environment
  • Strong hands-on experience with PLC/HMI programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley)
  • Proficient in Ignition SCADA, Xtal, and HMI/SCADA dashboard development
  • Solid understanding of OPC/UA, industrial networking, and machine integration best practices
  • Experience working with SQL databases, data historians, and process logging systems
  • Familiarity with SCADA architecture, alarm management, and data-driven decision-making
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system logic
  • Experience integrating data from CMMS (e.g., Flux) or MES systems into dashboards and reporting tools
  • Programming experience with Python, JavaScript, or scripting used in automation or Ignition environments
