The Controller is responsible for managing the College's financial operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial reporting. The Controller will oversee the Business Office, maintain accounting records, develop and implement internal controls, monitor budget performance, develop financial policies and procedures, ensure compliance with applicable Federal and state laws, and provide support on other related fiscal and accounting matters.

The Controller is responsible for managing the College's financial operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial reporting. The Controller will oversee the Business Office, maintain accounting records, develop and implement internal controls, monitor budget performance, develop financial policies and procedures, ensure compliance with applicable Federal and state laws, and provide support on other related fiscal and accounting matters.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Direct, manage and monitor day-to-day financial operations of the College including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, fixed asset management, cash management, student accounts, and payroll
- Maintain the College's financial accounting system and internal controls with responsibility for timely and accurate recording of financial transactions
- Participate in the monthly and annual closing process.
- Develop, monitor, and enforce financial policies and procedures to ensure legal and/or regulatory compliance for all fiscal service activities, including adherence to Wisconsin Technical College System rules, GASB standards, generally accepted accounting principles, and other federal, state and College policies as appropriate
- Coordinate the annual audit process and implement the recommendations of auditors in accordance with accounting practices and regulations. Manage other program audits as appropriate.
- Assists with the annual budget development process and related documentation.
- Assist with internal and external reporting requirements.
- Collaborate within the Business Office and other departments to develop and implement processes that are efficient and effective, maximize the stakeholder experience and assist leadership to accomplish the strategic priorities of the College.
- Supervise and manage the Business Office staff, recommending updates to streamline accounting procedures, cross-train staff to perform functional tasks and provide mentoring and growth opportunities.
- Oversee grant accounting, ensuring compliance with grant regulations and financial reporting requirements.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong foundation in accounting principles, financial reporting and relevant regulations.
- Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and make financial decisions.
- Proficiency in accounting software, ERP systems, MS Office.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other departments and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage and mentor a team effectively.
- Continuous improvement mindset with ability to seek out new methods and procedures and willingness to incorporate them into existing practices.
- Master's degree in accounting, finance, or related field, Or a CPA
- 8-10 years of experience in progressive accounting role.
- 3 years of experience in leadership or supervisory role.
- Governmental accounting experience
- Registered certified public accountant (CPA)
