Northrop Grumman Tactical Space Systems Division (TSSD) has an opportunity for a Manager of Engineering, Mission Assurance to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in Dulles, VA. The individual will promote professional development of the Mission Assurance Engineering (MAE) workforce and foster a collaborative culture that sustains the momentum around employee engagement and inclusion, affordability, innovation, value growth and continuous improvement. The Manager will also provide contract level support which may be under National Security Systems (NSS), Space Security Systems (SPS) or Civil and Commercial contracts to assure all requirements are met with on-time delivery and first-time quality.

Qualified candidates will have demonstrated success leading multi-disciplined organizations interfacing with senior management and customers and controlling budgets while achieving a high level of employee engagement and inclusion. Candidates must demonstrate a proven track record of rapid prototyping, solving complex problems through systematic and objective evaluation of information and data resulting in effective communication, championing, and implementation of change with a diverse set of internal and external customers and suppliers.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Assesses program performance and risks and determines resources and actions to assure mission success. Implements the division Quality Management System (QMS) and continuous improvement activities while engaging across and up for lessons learned and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Assesses needs for Mission Assurance Engineering support on contracts and hires and trains personnel to ensure programs are properly staffed.
  • Promotes the professional development of the Mission Assurance Engineering workforce and fosters a collaborative culture that sustains the momentum around employee engagement and inclusion, affordability, innovation, value growth and continuous improvement.
  • Maintains the highest level of commitment to quality, compliance and internal controls in adherence to company values and ethics.
  • Provides clear assignments, helps employees connect their efforts to the larger goals of the organization, creates an inclusive work environment characterized by mutual respect and the valuing of differences, and builds a culture that motivates employees to their highest levels of performance.
  • Maintains close engagement with the Supplier Quality organization to drive improvements from key suppliers.
  • Interfaces frequently with Northrop Grumman senior management and customer representatives.
  • Ensures MAE engagement in pre-proposal and proposal phases of the Business Acquisition Process (BAP) or earlier.
  • Advocates and implements continuous improvement opportunities,
  • Provides leadership and guidance in identifying and executing tasks to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of program/contract performance.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related STEM field
  • Minimum of 10 years of related engineering experience supporting a production environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of previous management/leadership experience
  • Active or current Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain SCI at time of application
  • U.S. citizen
  • Systems, IPT, or MAE experience working all phases of a product life cycle.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001/AS9100 Quality Management Systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal, communication, leadership, and mentoring skills and confidence to brief upper management on a regular basis.
  • Superior customer relationship skills


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • MS or MBA degree
  • Experience within the Aerospace and Defense industry
  • Experience working as a Mission Assurance Engineering Lead.
  • Aerospace experience, in particular working on satellites, payloads, launch vehicles and / or other space flight hardware
  • Familiar with Systems Engineering principles
  • Familiar with TIPQA, Windchill, and / or Costpoint
  • Familiar with Earned Value Management (EVM)
  • Experience supporting audits


Salary Range: $142,000.00 - $203,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
