Position Summary

We have the opportunity for a Sr. Manager of Research Services to join the firm's Knowledge & Innovation Department. This position oversees three primary functions: Legal/Business Research, Research Operations, and Digital Research Resources.
The Sr. Manager of Research Services collaborates with colleagues in other areas of Knowledge & Innovation as well as members of Finance and Information Technology on various projects. In addition, the Sr. Manager of Research Services is involved with strategic planning and execution at the Knowledge & Innovation and Research Services levels and has oversight of the firm's print and electronic research subscriptions portfolios and budgets.
The Sr. Manager of Research Services is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with legal information providers along with the Digital Research Resources Lead, evaluating new resources, and developing trainings for the Research Services team. This position also leads the creation of resource communications for attorneys and business professionals for current awareness and promotion of resources and initiatives.

Essential Functions

  • Regularly communicates with Chief Knowledge & Innovation Officer to report on projects and developments in Research Services
  • Participates in regularly scheduled Knowledge & Innovation Leadership Team meetings
  • Holds regularly scheduled one-on-ones with team members as well as all-team meetings
  • Develops and executes annual strategic priorities and goals, in line with both the Knowledge & Innovation and Research Services initiatives
  • Works with the Research Manager to maintain a high-level of service for the attorneys and business professionals and billing practices to continue to improve revenue
  • In collaboration with the Digital Research Resources and Operations Leads, prepares and manages the annual print, electronic research services, and cost recovery budgets; keeps apprised through monthly reporting from Finance
  • Negotiates and reviews renewal contracts and new research resources contracts with the support of the Digital Research Resource Lead
  • Oversees Research Services onboarding of new attorney and paralegal hires
  • Stays current on new legal resource technologies and developments in legal services
  • Provides direct reports with regular performance feedback and coaching, and prepares and conducts annual performance evaluations
  • Participates in professional development through internal and external training and involvement in professional associations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree. MLS and/or JD preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in legal services with at least five of those years leading research services/library departments.
  • Strong understanding of legal practice-the business of the practice of law
  • Collaborative with ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the firm to provide quality service and gain support for Research Services initiatives
  • Ability to identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions
  • Strength with details, accuracy, and information organization
  • Adept at handling multiple projects and shifting priorities, meeting deadlines and being available to leadership and team members when needed
  • Keen interest in innovation and technology, and ability to employ new resources in role
