Position DescriptionThe McGill University Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology and the Ludmer Centre for Neuroinformatics and Mental Health in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invite applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Research) in the general area of molecular neurobiology in health and disease. The position is based at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research (LDI), Jewish General Hospital (JGH). This position will be a part of the Ludmer Centre Single-Cell Genomics Brain Initiative in partnership with the Douglas Mental Health Institute, the Montreal Neurological Institute (The Neuro) and the LDI/JGH. This will be a three-year renewable Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.The McGill University Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology is part of the School of Biomedical Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada's renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.The LDI is the research arm of the Jewish General Hospital (JGH)-a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at McGill University. The JGH is affiliated with the CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l'le-de-Montral (CCOMTL) and is part of the McGill Integrated University Health Network. Over the years, the LDI has been remarkably successful in attracting outstanding investigators with recognized excellence in areas such as Cancer Therapeutics, Molecular Oncology, Cell and Gene Therapy, AIDS/HIV, Aging, Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease, Clinical Epidemiology, and Psychosocial Aspects of Disease.The LDI boasts more than 200 researchers, 450 administrative and support staff, and about 275 post-graduate students and post-doctoral fellows who receive their research training at the Institute yearly. The successful candidate's research program will benefit from the state-of-the-art core facilities and the on-site JGH Bio-portal including the diverse biobanks and clinical teams together representing valuable resources to study brain health and disease.Job DutiesThe successful candidate will be an emerging research leader launching independent research programs focused on fundamental neurobiology, including but not limited to, neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation, and brain disorders/diseases including brain tumors.The successful candidate will be appointed for a three-year, renewable term within the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. In addition to lab and office space at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research, the individual will have access to all the resources of the LDI and the McGill University downtown campus, including animal facilities, core facilities, and collaborative support. They will also be provided a competitive startup package and structured mentorship to support the launching of their research program.The successful candidate will be involved in the academic activities of the McGill University Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology; they will be expected to demonstrate aptitude, enthusiasm, and excellence in research. The incumbent will also be expected to establish and carry out an innovative and externally funded research program that integrates with existing strengths within the LDI and the Department.The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill's academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students, residents, post-doctoral fellows, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). They will also be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate classroom-based teaching.McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.Qualifications and Education RequirementsCandidates must:

Have completed a PhD or MD/PhD in Cell Biology, Neurobiology, or a related field within the last 5 years;

Possess post-doctoral training in the area of single cell "omic" technology or a related discipline;

Have evidence of strong research productivity and a publication record of primary research articles in the field of neurobiology, neurochemistry, or neurogenetics with a demonstrated ability to attract competitive funding;

Be poised to launch an independent research fundamental neurobiology including but not limited to neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation, and brain disorders/diseases including brain tumors;

Fluency in English is essential; a working knowledge of French, or a commitment to acquiring it within a few years of appointment is preferred.
