Reporting to the Vice President, Philanthropy, the Director, Stewardship is responsible for implementation, management, and ongoing enhancements of a comprehensive program that acknowledges, recognizes and conveys the impact of philanthropic and sponsorship gifts by working cross departmentally to meet the needs of our donors.
This role is also an integral member of the Philanthropy team and is responsible for collaborating with all fundraising leaders to maximize engagement and lifetime value from donors in an effort to achieve long-term goals across all revenue streams. The Director, Stewardship will collaborate across the Foundation to create meaningful, best in class donor stewardship experiences and touchpoints that demonstrate the impact of support for the Foundation.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Stewardship Program
- Implements and manages the stewardship program to ensure that every donor receives recognition in an appropriate and equitable manner and that we respect the donor's requests.
- Develops and maintains procedures and processes specific to the organizational stewardship program and budget, establishing and reporting on performance goals and measures.
- Ensure records, processes and work within data platforms is accurate and timely, including leading the team in stakeholder relationship excellence and CRM best practices.
- Work cross-departmentally to ensure planning, development and distribution of effective reporting that meets the needs of every donor & partner with respect to transparency around our operations and the impact and effectiveness of their contributions.
- Monitors and evaluates fundraising results collaborates with the Director, Impact & Accountability Director(s) of Philanthropy to provide regular stewardship reports, comments and recommendations to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual goals.
- Responsible for all reporting to donors, including but not limited to pillars, campaign reporting, donor designated gifts, endowments, awards and legacy projects. Will work in partnership with finance to provide financial reporting when necessary.
- Maintains an understanding of all Foundation policies, and where relevant, ensures adherence (i.e. Gift Acceptance Policy).
- Provides oversight of signature, donor stewardship, and recognition events.
- Assists in the introduction and relationship development for the Foundation and researchers, doctors and other healthcare partners within the cancer centers when appropriate.
- Leverage expertise in donor segmentation, donor experience, surveying and segmentation to positively impact donor retention.
- Presents on key performance indicators related to their portfolio prepares reports on the implementation of projects and programs, successes, areas of improvement and overall use of budgets.
Strategic Development
- Sets stewardship strategy and evaluates the implementation of stewardship tools used across revenue streams in collaboration with the Philanthropy Directors and other relevant key stakeholders, including acknowledgement, recognition, and impact.
- Collaborates with other senior leaders to develop and implement the annual plan that is in line with the Foundation's Strategic Road Map.
- Stays informed of emerging trends and best practices in donor behaviour and philanthropy to be able to design innovative and sophisticated donor relations strategies and programs which cultivate the life-long involvement of donors with the organization.
- Leads the budgeting process for the stewardship ensuring resource allocations align to the strategic priorities of the Foundation.
Leadership
- Provide ongoing coaching and direction by working together with direct reports to develop individual work plans to achieve set directives and goals that are aligned with the annual plan.
- Cascade strategy, team goals and business decisions, help navigate change and remove roadblocks for your direct reports to enable their success.
- Create a positive environment of trust, support and recognition, where development and performance thrive.
- Collaborate across departments on various organization-wide projects, supporting as a subject-matter expert of the portfolio and in a lead role at times.
Required Qualifications
- A post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline, including Business, Marketing, Communications and/or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
- 10+ years of experience in the non-profit sector or stakeholder relations - with a preference to those with a background in healthcare philanthropy.
- 5+ years of experience with demonstrated success managing a comprehensive donor stewardship program.
- 3-5 years of experience leading teams, particularly through change and evolution of work.
- Previous experience in building and implementing stewardship strategies, processes and tools to ensure a best-in-class donor experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal to diverse audiences - donors, healthcare teams, government, corporations, foundations and internal stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and trust across many levels internally and externally.
- Understanding of diverse revenue streams including transformational giving and capital campaigns.
- Experience with CRM management - Salesforce NP experience considered an asset.
- Project Management Certification considered an asset.
