Aerospace & Defense startup currently in Stealth based in El Segundo, made up of former SpaceX, Anduril, and Lockheed engineers, applying the SpaceX model to mass produce life-saving systems. Backed by joint staff level military leadership and several major SV firms, their first product is designed for immediate deployment around the world starting with Ukraine where the need is critical.
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced engineering leader with an extensive background in mechanical and electromechanical design ideally with strong rocket and/or missile systems experience. This individual should excel with large programmatic and technical responsibility while mentoring across a wide array of disciplines. The role will be responsible for steering technical design, program management, test execution, and day-to-day engineering decisionmaking. This will be a full time+ leadership role leading the team from the front by diving into engineering challenges and executing on company deliverables.
Key responsibilities:
Management-the manager will oversee a mechanical team of 5-10 hard working and talented engineers executing on ambitious timelines with startup scale resources.
He/she should be capable of diving into the weeds of individual design, fabrication, or test challenges and of holding individuals accountable while encouraging learning and initiative.
The hiring manager for the startup's mechanical and electrical engineering teams.
Lead team meetings, and partner with leads across multiple teams to make sure that all project deadlines are met.
Technical Direction-the manager will work with the executive team to set and manage system requirements, timelines, and execution and will be the Responsible Engineer for hardware success.
Pace-the team works exceptionally hard and the manager will be expected to lead from the front-pushing a hardcore development cycle while ensuring staff's needs are met and concerns are addressed.
Qualifications:
7+ years as exceptional engineering individual contributor/responsible engineer and 3+ years experience in leadership at fast-paced and innovative engineering-led aerospace/technology organization
3+ years working in aerospace, ideally with missile or rocket systems
Bachelors in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace engineering
Exceptional character-has the track record of motivating teams.
Extensive experience from design and development to scaled manufacturing
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters in Mechanical,Electrical, or Aerospace engineering.
5+ years at startups
5+ years in management at a flat organization
Experience in business development, budgeting, and planning
Machines/ solders/ flies drones/ rockets are hobbies and wishes their work was more like that
