Location: Boston, MA
Hybrid: 3 days onsite required
Compensation: $150k - $280k DOE

Are you a strategic fundraising leader with deep experience in development operations, philanthropy, and performance-driven outcomes? We are seeking an Executive Director of Development to play a key leadership role in a high-impact healthcare organization. This position will oversee crucial operational areas, including Development Strategy, Events, Operations, and Prospect Management, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and philanthropic objectives.
About the Role:

As a critical member of the Development Executive Leadership Team, the Executive Director, Development will shape department-wide strategies, monitor performance, and lead initiatives to optimize resources and efficiencies. This role is ideal for a proactive, strategic thinker who thrives in a matrixed organizational structure and excels in cross-functional collaboration.

The Executive Director will lead the implementation of philanthropic programs across multiple healthcare facilities, driving operational excellence and ensuring best practices in compliance, financial reporting, donor engagement, and data management.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement departmental strategies that maximize philanthropic revenue and support the institution's mission.
  • Oversee data analytics, goal-setting, and financial reporting to drive key fundraising initiatives.
  • Lead the execution of fundraising strategies at newly integrated hospitals, ensuring seamless alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Partner with senior leadership, frontline fundraisers, legal, and finance teams to develop policies, track performance, and optimize development operations.
  • Oversee CRM databases (e.g., Raiser's EdgeNXT), gift processing, and reporting structures to ensure data integrity and security.
  • Manage and mentor a team of 20+ professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and excellence.
Experience:
  • 15+ years of experience in development and operations, with at least 10 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Proven ability to design and execute high-impact fundraising strategies within complex organizations.
  • Expertise in data-driven decision-making, financial management, and donor relations.
  • Strong background in healthcare philanthropy, nonprofit development, or large-scale social impact organizations.
  • A passion for social justice, diversity, and inclusion.
