Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Director, Legal Services, and using the Integrated Legal Service Model, the Legal Counsel provides comprehensive legal representation, consultation and training in all matters related to the mandate and activities of the Society under the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017, and within the framework of the values and the Vision of the Society.

Durham Children's Aid Society has been supporting families and protecting children in our community since 1905. We are responsible for providing child protection services to children and youth under the age of 18, and their families, who live in Durham Region.
We work with families and our community partners to help children grow up safe and healthy. In most instances, we are able to keep children safe in their family home by working with their primary caregivers to address any challenges they may be facing.

Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from a university of recognized standing.
- Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
- CIPP/C Certification or other privacy and cybersecurity designations are an asset.
- 3-5+ years of related experience in relevant child and family legal matters or,
- 1+ year of work experience with a Children's Aid Society.
- An equivalent combination of relevant education, experience, and training may be considered as appropriate.
