Job Description
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for an expert level engineer in the specialized field of Building Information Modeling (BIM) to handle Statewide and Programmatic responsibilities. You will manage and direct complex programs within a major division at a Department wide level with full technical and program responsibility for advancing the Department's BIM and Digital Delivery Program that require advanced engineering skills and independent judgment. You will direct and be responsible for managing and advancing the entire Program. Engineering assignments may include planning, developing, testing, and construction or any other aspect of engineering work within a specialized field. You will also provide technical information and support to other engineering and technical staff applying standards, processes and techniques.

Principal Duties
As the BIM Program Manager, you will:
  • Manage UDOT's BIM program and lead the Digital Delivery effort
  • Develop Direction for Digital Delivery (DD) and Digital Twin (DT)
    • Oversee workflows and processes to improve DD and DT efforts
    • Assess software platforms that may improve DD and DT efforts
    • Manage issues related to Digital Delivery tools software/hardware
  • Develop and manage employees in BIM roles including
    • Digital Design
      • Design workflows with ORD
      • ORD Workspace
      • Digital Design Review
      • Advertisement/estimating - packages, deliverables, etc.
    • Digital Construction
      • Project viewers for internal and external
      • Inspection tools utilizing the model
      • Inspection data flow to UDOT's Pay System
  • Manage consultant contracts and workloads
    • Accelerated Innovation Deployment Grants
    • Advanced Digital Construction Management System Grant
    • Develop tasks, scope of work and budgets for consultants
  • Apply for, execute and prepare documentation for other federal grants
  • UDOT Contact for Pooled Fund Studies for Infrastructure
  • Collaborate with other states and participate in FHWA peer exchanges

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Here are some of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that are typically associated with the job, though not all-inclusive:
  • Knowledge of the Bentley Suite of programs including MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), OpenBridge, Synchro, ProjectWise, etc.
  • Other programs and platforms including ESRI FieldMaps, Trimble Business Center, etc.
  • Proficiency with UDOT Project Delivery Network (PDN)
  • Ability to deliver presentations and training
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Computer expertise using MicroSoft Office or Google Suite applications and spreadsheet software
  • Proficiency with GIS, BIM, UDOT Digital Delivery, Digital Construction and Data Capture processes
  • DTS software procurement processes and aid in software renewals and acquisitions
  • Support all users through written procedures, in-person training and impromptu problems
  • Communicate directly with Bentley Support with product issues

Minimum Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must
  • Be registered as a professional engineer (PE) in Utah.
  • Have at least four (4) years of engineering experience following licensure as a PE.

Those who are within six (6) months of the four (4) year requirement may still be considered in order to allow those licensed in other states to complete the reciprocity requirements to be licensed in Utah and potentially those with at least three and half (3.5) years of experience to apply.
