Reporting to the US Institutional Sales Leader, the VP, Sales -National Accounts/Institutional is responsible for prospecting, developing and building relationships with the institutional client channel segment and field consultants. As an employee covering the institutional market for American Century, you must be a self-starter with a highly focused and detailed approach to business development and institutional sales. You are an experienced salesperson who employs a solutions-based, consultative approach to sales, and able to engage clients as a trusted advisor. You will embrace and embody our culture of 'winning behaviors' centered around client focus, accountability, collaboration, intellectual curiosity & adaptability and competitive drive. The West Coast Sales Leader will effectively articulate to clients the key aspects that differentiate American Century from the rest of the market and the outstanding value proposition the firm offers through its products and services.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver a sales strategy that consists of cultivating existing and new institutional relationships within the Western United States region
- Partner with the Sales leadership to instill a sales process and culture that effectively presents American Century's story and investment platform to the broader market through a consultative, solutions-based approach
- Develop and implement a plan to effectively penetrate the institutional defined contribution channel
- Establish a strategy to cover field consultants, closely collaborating with the Global Consultant Relations team
- Partner with product development, marketing and investments teams to ensure competitive positioning across key client segments and product opportunities
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the institutional business through actively participating in long-term planning, annual goal-setting, revenue projections, budgeting and acquisition activities
Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a balance of strategic business development skills, far-reaching product knowledge and a proven track record of successfully raising assets across a broad range of institutional clients.
- Minimum of 15 years' experience with asset management sales & distribution
- Demonstrated success raising assets through identifying, sourcing, developing and closing on new business as well as servicing large, complex institutional mandates with key clients
- Consistent history of organically developing and monetizing institutional relationships in the Western U.S. / West Coast region
- Broad investment knowledge and experience, evidenced by successful sales across multiple asset classes including traditional and alternative strategies
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; an ability to simplify complex products and solutions to investors
- Viewed as a trusted advisor, providing clients with a solutions-based approach
- Strong cultural alignment with our fundamental values
- Bachelor's degree; MBA or CFA preferred
