Position Summary:
The Director of Technical Accounting is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the company's compliance with accounting standards (GAAP), providing guidance on complex accounting issues, and ensuring proper implementation of new accounting standards and policies. This position will play a critical role in supporting financial reporting accuracy, evaluating accounting implications of business decisions, and maintaining a strong control environment.

Position Summary:
The Director of Technical Accounting is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the company's compliance with accounting standards (GAAP), providing guidance on complex accounting issues, and ensuring proper implementation of new accounting standards and policies. This position will play a critical role in supporting financial reporting accuracy, evaluating accounting implications of business decisions, and maintaining a strong control environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the company's technical accounting function, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP as applicable.
- Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions, including but not limited to: revenue recognition, lease accounting, business combinations, debt and equity instruments, impairments, and stock-based compensation.
- Research and evaluate the impact of new accounting standards and implement necessary changes in policies and procedures.
- Partner with internal teams (FP&A, Legal, Tax, Treasury, Business Development) to assess accounting implications of contracts, mergers & acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives.
- Draft and maintain technical accounting memos to support positions taken in financial statements.
- Serve as a subject matter expert to senior management, operating segment accounting teams, and external auditors on technical accounting matters
- Lead training sessions for accounting and finance teams on relevant accounting developments.
- Monitor standard-setter activities (FASB, SEC, PCAOB) to proactively prepare the organization for upcoming changes.
- Support SEC and regulatory reporting (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) with proper disclosures and documentation.
- Ensure proper implementation and maintenance of accounting policies and internal controls.
- Support senior management in monitoring the operating effectiveness of internal controls performed by the business and its subsidiaries.
Specific Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
- Five to seven years of progressive accounting experience, including Big 4 public accounting and corporate technical accounting roles.
- Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
- Experience with SOX compliance.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex accounting concepts to non-accountants.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Workiva financial reporting tools a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Experience in a public company environment.
- Prior leadership experience with ability to manage and develop a team.
