Job Description:
Budget Title: College Physician (SL-6)
Salary: $190,000 - $200,000 (10-month, commensurate with experience)
This position resides at the Decker Student Health Services Center, a department within the Division of Student Affairs at Binghamton University. The position reports to the Medical Director of the Decker Student Health Services Center.
The DSHSC strives to provide outstanding primary medical care, in a patient-centered manner, to the students at Binghamton University. The college physician provides direct patient care for on a full time 10-month contract. A total of 2 months of no obligation during the summer and/or winter sessions are part of this position that will be defined.

Job Description:

- Evening and weekend hours are not currently expected, but may be required only under exceptional circumstances
- At this time, there is no expectation of evening or weekend call, but may be required under exceptional circumstances
Responsibilities
I. Clinical
- Applies professional physician concepts, including:
- Examines and diagnoses patients
- Orders ancillary studies and interprets their results
- Prescribes and administers medical treatments
- Writes prescriptions
- Advises patients on how to use medications and educates patients on their medical conditions
- Performs select procedures
- Administers local anesthesia
- Orders special diets, and
- Performs other medical functions as authorized
- Supervises trainees and provides consultation to mid-level practitioners
- Serves as resource and provides medical guidance to nurses and other members of clinical staff
- Attends and participates in staff conferences and meetings
- Coordinates and provides referrals for patient care at local emergency departments, specialists, and on-campus services. Provides subsequent medical management after these referrals.
- Provides travel medicine and advice to students traveling abroad
- Participates fully in the quality improvement and peer review processes
- Develops and maintains proficiency with the medical records system used at the DSHSC
- Documents clinical visits in a timely manner (within 24 hours of the clinical visit)
II. Non-clinical
- Fosters a culture of excellence and patient-oriented service
- Treats all students, faculty, and staff professionally and with dignity and respect
- Demonstrates exceptional communication skills with patients, their families, and staff members
- Serves as a back up to the medical director with regard to public health and university medical policy when requested by the university administration
- Presents educational programs and participates in the training of students and staff, when requested
- Develops knowledge of, maintains knowledge of, and follows the policies and procedures at the DSHSC
- Is designated as an essential employee of Binghamton University
Requirements:
- MD or DO degree from an accredited school of medicine
- Current, unrestricted license as a physician in New York State, by August 1, 2025
- Current board certification in family medicine, internal medicine, or emergency medicine, by August 1, 2025 or within one year of hire
- Current, unrestricted DEA certificate, by August 1, 2025
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing gender affirming care
- Bilingual or multi-lingual
- Experience in college health
