Position Summary
The Financial Performance Analyst is a newly created and mission-critical role reporting exclusively to the President of Operations and Retail, with authority to assess, influence, and guide the company's financial performance across all business segments. The individual will be responsible for proactively driving profitability improvements, diagnosing performance challenges at the unit, category, and region levels, and integrating cross-functional strategies that align with corporate growth targets. This role requires deep domain expertise in fuel retail, convenience store operations, and wholesale distribution, alongside advanced financial acumen. The Financial Performance Analyst acts as the President of Operation and Retail's direct strategic partner, providing actionable intelligence and enterprise-level insight to shape high-stakes decisions.

Responsibilities & Duties
Enterprise Financial Performance Leadership
- Lead a company-wide performance management framework across fuel retail sites, wholesale fuel delivery, and convenience operations.
- Design and implement enterprise performance scorecards and dashboards to monitor site-level and regional KPIs, including EBITDA, net margin per gallon, category mix, shrink, and labor productivity.
- Serve as a performance auditor of operational financial identifying gaps, root causes, and solutions to improve cash flow, cost efficiency, and profit contribution.
Strategic Advisory to the President of Operations & Retail
- Deliver direct and frequent briefings to the President of Operations and Retail on trends, opportunities, threats, and financial health across the enterprise.
- Collaborate with the President of Operations and Retail on capital allocation, pricing strategies, supply chain shifts, and revenue optimization plans.
- Provide board-level reporting materials and insights to support executive governance and accountability.
Turnaround & Optimization Planning
- Identify underperforming locations, categories, or processes and lead full turnaround diagnostics and action planning.
- Lead profitability playbooks for low-margin sites and high-potential units, drawing on benchmark data, internal KPIs, and competitive intelligence.
- Recommend closures, conversions, or repositioning strategies where ROI fails to meet internal hurdle rates.
Procurement, Margin, and Pricing Intelligence
- Partner with procurement and merchandising to guide fuel and product pricing, supplier negotiations, and promotional design based on margin analysis.
- Monitor the impact of supplier rebates, cost changes, and vendor performance on gross margin and profit per square foot/liter.
- Translate data into pricing decisions and inventory movement strategies tailored to each geographic and demographic cluster.
Cross-Functional Integration & Influence
- Collaborate with field operations, supply chain, merchandising, marketing, and finance teams to embed performance thinking into their daily workstreams.
- Establish shared KPIs and financial literacy across departments to foster performance accountability.
- Serve as the central integration point for financial insights that span planning, execution, and review cycles.
Benchmarking & Predictive Forecasting
- Benchmark financial and operational KPIs against NACS and other industry standards.
- Develop predictive forecasting models to anticipate financial risk and opportunity in real time.
- Use machine learning insights, seasonality modeling, and trend analysis to proactively alert executive leadership of emerging threats or gains.
Strategic Projects & Growth Engablement
- Support M&A evaluations, site acquisition due diligence, and post-acquisition performance alignment.
- Advise on new business models, including co-branded locations, EV charging profitability, and alternative fuel offerings.
- Partner with real estate and development teams on the financial planning of expansions or divestitures.
Education & Work Experience
- A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business administration is required.
- Minimum of 5+ years in financial performance, strategic finance, or enterprise profitability leadership.
- Mandatory direct experience in the convenience store, fuel distribution, or wholesale fuel industry.
- Proven history of delivering bottom-line results through performance improvement and cost optimization.
- Experience in multi-site, multi-unit environments with complex P&L structures.
- Executive-level analytical thinking and strategic foresight.
- Mastery of financial modeling, dashboards, KPI frameworks, and profitability diagnostics.
- Persuasive communicator with strong storytelling ability, translating numbers into executive insight.
- Politically astute and influential across cross-functional and senior leadership environments.
- Deep business acumen with an ability to lead without direct line authority.
- High discretion and trusted access to sensitive corporate and financial information.
- Adaptable, curious, and intellectually rigorous under pressure.
