BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Superintendent or their designee, the Executive Director of Educational Options serves as the Principal of the District's Alternative Education Schools. In this capacity, the Executive Director is responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating a comprehensive continuum of alternative learning pathways and student placement services for grades 9-12.
The Executive Director ensures equity and access for all students, including but not limited to those in continuation education, independent study, adult education, community day school, and home and hospital instruction programs. This position ensures all educational options are compliant with the California Education Code, responsive to student needs, and aligned with district goals for academic achievement, graduation, and college and career readiness.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
1. Serve as the instructional leader for the District's Alternative Education Schools by setting a clear vision, establishing a strong mission, and developing strategic goals that promote academic success and student well-being.
2. Oversee the operation and continuous improvement of the district's educational options programs, including but not limited to continuation high school, independent study, adult education, community day school, home and hospital instruction, and other alternative learning environments.
3. Supervise and evaluate site administrators, faculty, and staff assigned to alternative education programs, providing instructional leadership aligned with district academic and behavioral expectations.
4. Lead the development and implementation of personalized learning models and credit recovery strategies to support diverse learners in meeting graduation requirements.
5. Ensure alignment of educational options with the district's Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), particularly goals related to attendance, graduation rates, and student engagement.
6. Develop and monitor systems for student placement, progress tracking, and successful transitions between alternative education programs and comprehensive high schools; serve as chairperson for Referral & Placement (R&P).
7. Collaborate with Student Support Services, Special Education, site administrators, and other relevant staff and stakeholders to ensure appropriate academic and social-emotional supports for students.
8. Interpret and implement state and federal laws, regulations, and policies related to educational options.
9. Manage program budgets, staffing, and resource allocation to ensure efficient and equitable use of funds aligned with program goals.
10. Facilitate interagency collaboration with county offices of education, community colleges, probation, social services, workforce development agencies, and other external partners to support student success.
11. Collect and analyze data to evaluate program effectiveness and inform improvement planning and reporting.
12. Represent the district at regional and statewide meetings related to educational options.
13. Lead outreach and engagement efforts with students and families, including re-engagement strategies for students at risk of dropping out.
14. Provide professional learning for staff on topics such as instructional strategies, restorative practices, inclusive education, trauma-informed care, and interventions aligned with alternative education best practices.
15. Support the development of technology-integrated instructional models tailored for flexible, off-site, and blended learning environments.
16. Write and revise policies and administrative regulations related to areas of responsibility.
17. Follow a planned professional growth program and participate actively in local, state, and national professional associations.
18. Develop and manage master schedules and staffing plans to ensure equitable access to instruction, efficient resource allocation, and responsiveness to student needs.
19. Provide proactive supervision of students and ensure a safe, secure, and supportive campus environment that fosters positive behavior and student well-being.
20. Coordinate and oversee all student assessments, including local benchmarks, CAASPP, and ELPAC, to ensure accurate data collection and data-driven instructional planning.
21. Ensure that school facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained to support a positive learning environment.
22. Ensure the development and implementation of legally compliant IEPs and 504 Plans that meet the individual needs of students and uphold their educational rights.
23. Foster open, respectful communication with students, families, and the broader community, engaging stakeholders in meaningful decision-making to support student success.
24. Lead the implementation of the school's Counseling, Social Work, and Community Schools programs to support students' academic, social-emotional, and mental health needs.
25. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of their designee.
