Description:
The Acute Care staff occupational therapist is responsible for providing individualized occupational therapy treatment for patients.
The occupational therapist utilizes appropriate age-related treatments and evaluations according to patient needs.
The role involves treating individuals of all ages with various diagnoses, including orthopedic, neurological, and general medical disorders.
The occupational therapist must evaluate and treat medically complex and often unstable patients.
This includes ongoing assessment and adjustment of treatment plans, requiring critical thinking skills.
Knowledge of normal and abnormal vital signs, indications and contraindications, and monitoring methods is essential.
The occupational therapist must make appropriate discharge recommendations based on patient assessments.
The ability to manage a high-volume caseload and dynamic schedule is crucial for this position.
Rescheduling and prioritizing patient loads due to new orders and patients' varying needs will be a regular task.
Flexibility and problem-solving skills are necessary to navigate roadblocks and organize a fast-paced schedule.
Effective communication with the interdisciplinary team is vital for patient safety and comfort.
The occupational therapist must facilitate scheduling and collaborate on discharge planning.
Supervisory responsibilities may include overseeing certified occupational therapist assistants, aides, and students.
This position adheres to the Scope and Standards of Practice for occupational therapy as outlined by the appropriate regulatory body.
Strong critical thinking skills outside one's own discipline are necessary for making therapy recommendations.
