Position Summary:
We are seeking a Principal, Data Product Management to play a pivotal individual contributor role in advancing our enterprise-wide data product strategy. This senior-level role will support the definition, development, and execution of high-impact, scalable data products that serve as foundational capabilities for analytics, machine learning, and operational insights.
As a Principal IC, you will partner closely with product managers, data engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to shape the vision, roadmap, and execution of our most strategic data assets. You will be a key advocate for data-as-a-product thinking and will lead the discovery, planning, and design of reusable and value-driven data products across technical and business domains. This role also requires help managing the technology portfolio and key tech initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
- Support the vision and strategy for core technical and business data products, including reference datasets, semantic data layers, clinical data assets, and reusable ingestion and quality components.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, analytics, product, and business teams to define requirements and translate business needs into scalable data product capabilities.
- Lead discovery and prioritization efforts for data product opportunities by deeply understanding stakeholder use cases, pain points, and goals.
- Define and maintain product roadmaps and backlogs for foundational data products, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy and analytical initiatives.
- Support data product lifecycle management-from ideation and requirements to design, delivery, and measurement-ensuring usability, quality, and business value.
- Act as a thought partner on modern data architecture, data modeling, governance, and quality practices to ensure robust, compliant, quality of data products.
- Champion product adoption and drive engagement by measuring usage, identifying barriers, and developing targeted enablement strategies.
- Influence and contribute to business cases that justify investment in new or enhanced data products and platforms.
- Support tech debt remediation and modernization initiatives to ensure foundational data capabilities remain scalable and ready for the future.
- Collaborate with data governance, security, and compliance teams to ensure data products meet regulatory and policy standards.
- Manage and track portfolio of technology initiatives including overall timeline, status, and risks.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in data product management, data strategy, or technical product roles with increasing scope and complexity.
- Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale data products and capabilities that support analytics, AI/ML, and operational reporting including reference data, data egress/ingress, semantic data, data quality and others.
- Experience with data governance concepts including data catalogue, metric definition management, data classification and others.
- Deep knowledge of modern data platforms and architectures (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, Kafka, Redshift), with a strong grasp of data engineering fundamentals.
- Strong communication and storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex data concepts into business outcomes and strategic narratives.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives in a matrixed environment without direct authority applying project and product management principles including managing the roadmap, timelines, tracking risks/mitigations.
- Expertise in agile methodologies and product development best practices including leveraging tools like JIRA to track Epics, functional stories.
- Experience working with healthcare, clinical, or regulated data is a plus.
- Maintain controls, reporting and transparency necessary to comply with customer and BCBSA confidentiality, HIPAA, PHI and PII standards, as well as SOC2 and HiTrust certifications.
