Job Responsibilities

The Director serves as the chief official for all campuses in the University of South Carolina System. The Director is responsible for capital planning, design and construction of all capital construction, renovation, repair and maintenance projects across theUSCSystem. The Director is also responsible for space management, leases and purchases of real property and code certification for the University within the limits set by the State.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and at least 10 years of job related experience, including some prior management experience. Typically reports to an Associate VP or VP.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional licensure, and/or a Master's degree in architecture or engineering, and minimum 20 years of experience is preferred.

Knowledge of large facility systems including architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing; of an organization's mission, programs and objectives; of an organization's structure, the people who manage the work, and the processes applicable to government work; of management principles; of applicable codes and compliance requirements; and of participatory work practices. Ability to develop a wide base of close customer relationships; to build, plan and work within budgeted resources; to estimate work and work within a changing work setting; to interpret and apply rules and regulations; to manage work and provide guidance to project managers to achieve high performance and accountability; to make presentations and prepare reports; to manage and prioritize a large and complex work load with short time frames; to make decisions with limited information and a strong experience base; to resolve problems and communicate outcomes; to interpret plans; to interact with various levels of personnel; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to use technology; and to build teams and involve stakeholders. Must have strong organizational and planning skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
