Education/Certification Required:
  • Master's Degree in counseling, social work, or closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas license as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate, Licensed Master Social Worker, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker
  • Must have valid driver's license and available transportation during entire workday to travel to campuses in the Corpus Christi ISO area

Experience Preferred:
  • Minimum of three years working in direct counseling related services with children/adolescents

Function
  • Counsel referred students to fully develop each student's emotional abilities.
  • Use an effective referral process to assist students and others to use special programs and services.
  • Utilize school-wide data collection systems to establish Tier Ill evidenced-based interventions.
  • Provide crisis intervention and behavior support to students (Tier Ill interventions)
  • Lead interventions for students transitioning from DAEP and residential placement.
  • Provide direct and consultative services for students, parents, and families.
  • Provide counseling, case management services, and interventions for students and families identified in behavior threat assessments.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Assessment
    • Conduct individual counseling sessions to enhance social development of students and provide student support in accepting responsibility for their actions, overcoming crisis, resolving conflict, improving attendace, decision-making skills, etc. (School-based counseling sessions)
    • Provide support and training for parents to increase the parents' understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child's concerns and their knowledge and use of available and appropriate resources.
    • Provide school staff and parents with community resources and services; coordinate and integrate school and community resources
    • Attend district threat assessment meetings to help identify level of threat and provide counseling, case management services, and interventions for students and families as needed.

    2. Consulation
    • Consult with parents regarding their children's academic performance, behavior, and basic needs and provide direct services, when needed.
    • Make appropriate referrals for basic needs (food, clothing and shelter).
    • Develop and conduct parenting training sessions and on-going support groups.
    • Serve as consultant to school personnel regarding students or situations and behavorial threat assessments.
    • Inform students and parents of their rights and responsibilities under federal and state law including compulsory attendance.
    • Consult with school personnel on strategies for working with students, including behavioral and trauma informed care-based interventions
    • Collaborate with community agencies to develop coorperative and positive relationships.

    3. Student Managment
    • Help to create a positive school environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students
    • Develop long-term and short-term interventions plans consistent with student's needs, strengths, diversity and life experiences, and social/emotional factors.
    • Support campus goals of prevention to maintain a healthy and safe school environment
    • Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information


    4. Policy, Reports, and Law
    • Comply with all applicable federal and state laws, Board of Education rules and local board policy and regulations in guidance and counseling area.
    • Adhere to all legal, ethical, and professional standards according to the licensing board.
    • Compile, maintain and file all reports, and other documents as required.
    • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
    • Comply with and understand Texas graduation requirements.

    5. School/Organizational Climate
    • Maintain professional behavior, promote a positive image, appearance, and work ethic to always represent the district in a positive manner and work in a team environment that supports the vision and mission of the district.
    • Maintain a positive and effective relationship, good judgment, and decision making with coworkers, supervisors, other district personnel, outside agencies, and organizations.
    • Promote teamwork by sharing knowledge, providing cross-training for employees, cooperating with others, participating in meetings and work groups, and supporting the goals and objectives of the district and department.
    • Demonstrate skill in anticipating, managing, and resolving conflict, including serving as impartial resource for interpersonal conflicts and discourse involving two or more students, including accusations of bullying.
    • Contribute to the planning of parent involvement activities and training centered around student mental health wellness.

    6. Communication
    • Facilitate positive communication between school personnel and students, parents, and the community.
    • Conduct home visits to gather information relating to student's crisis intervention and behavior support, as needed.
    • Effectively communicates with colleagues.
    • Maintain good judgment and decision making when dealing with supervisor, co-workers, District officials and employees, and outside agencies and organizations, and the public.
    • Develop and implement procedures to ensure that parents, students, and staff are kept well informed of policies, procedures, and programs.

    OTHER WORKING CONDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
    • Maintain emotional control under stress.
    • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
    • Ability to perform work while standing and/or walking for extended periods, up to eight (8) hours a day.
    • Responds to after-hours emergencies as needed.
    • Attend professional growth activities to maintain awareness of current research and issues in the field including technology integration.
