Job Description:

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

The Dean of Student Success is responsible for leading and coordinating initiatives that foster student retention, engagement, and student overall success at the college. The Dean partners with the Vice President of Enrollment Management to define and implement these initiatives. The Dean collaborates with faculty, staff, and external partners to create an inclusive and supportive environment that fosters a student-centered approach to academics, supports and life. The Dean fosters and supports student engagement, well-being, a student-centered culture, and ensures that students have the support, resources, and opportunities needed to thrive.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides strategic leadership and oversight for academic advising, counseling, accessibility services, career services, residence life, and student engagement programs and functions.
  • Develops and implements student success initiatives that support retention, persistence, belonging and completion.
  • Provides leadership and supervision for Academic Advisors, Counselors, Accessibility Coordinator, Student Success Coordinator, Career Services, Residence Hall staff, and Student life committees and personnel.
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations related to accessibility in student services and housing, including ADA and Title IX requirements.
  • Uses student surveys and data to make informed decisions and recommendations for a student-centered approach for people, places, and programs of the college.
  • Oversees the academic advising team, ensuring students receive personalized guidance for academic planning and career pathways.
  • Leads and oversees student code of conduct and student discipline.
  • Supervises the Counselor and ensures access to mental health resources and support.
  • Directs the Accessibility Coordinator in establishing and maintaining compliance with ADA and providing accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Leads Career Services, including job placement, internships, and career readiness programming, and future initiatives.
  • Oversees Residence Life, ensuring a safe, supportive, affordable, and engaging environment for students living on campus.
  • Supports robust Student Life programs, fostering student leadership development and engagement opportunities outside the classroom.
  • Monitors student persistence, retention, and success metrics, using data to drive decision-making and improve student outcomes.
  • Collaborates with faculty and academic departments to integrate student success strategies into curriculum and campus culture.
  • Develops, updates and is responsible for budgets for student support programs, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Is a liaison with schools, community organizations and employers to expand student opportunities and partnerships.
  • Is informed on best practices in student success, obtaining professional development and engaging with statewide and national organizations to gain expertise.
  • Serves on several student life and success committees.
  • Serves as a member of the Academic & Student Affairs Leadership Team.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field required or Bachelor's degree with significant Higher Education Administration leadership including advanced Student Affairs decision making experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in student services, advising, or related areas, with leadership and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of student development theory, retention strategies, and academic support services.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and implementation of strategies for student success.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to student services, including Americans with Disability Act and Title IX compliance.
  • Knowledge and understanding of community college philosophy and North Central Michigan College vision, mission, and values.
