The role you'll contribute:

Department Chair/Physical Therapy actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The Department Chair manages the program including hiring, managing the department's budget, overseeing accreditation requirements, representing the department at the institution level, and providing mentorship and leadership to staff and faculty. The Department Chair develops, designs, and delivers instruction in courses as needed. The Department Chair also participates in student advising and mentoring, and engages in the academic roles of teaching, service, scholarship, and research in balance with their administrative duties. The Department Chair reviews and assists with revisions as needed for department policies and procedures and identifies and recommends appropriate community agency linkages for student learning experiences.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

Scope of Responsibility :
  • Represents the Department to Senior Administration
  • Identifies appropriate community agency linkages for student learning experiences
  • Participates in student scholarly activities
  • Designs, coordinates, and implements program curriculum
  • Develops, designs, and delivers instruction in courses

Compliance/Regulatory Responsibility :
  • Develops the curriculum in harmony with the institution, the community, and professional accreditation agencies

  • Develops, reviews and updates department policies and procedures
  • Documents, reviews, and maintains current faculty, clinical liaison, staff, and student, records for the Department

Operating & Capital Budget/Financial Responsibility :
  • Develops and maintains department budget that assures adequate resources to support faculty
  • Seeks and applies for internal and/or external sources of funding for the department and/or students


Strategic Planning Responsibility :
  • Determines departmental vision and strategic plan in accordance with the institution's mission and vision


Performance Improvement Responsibility :
  • Maintains involvement in professional organizations
  • Develops improvement plans for the department, faculty, staff, and students to improve performance, as indicated by assessment results


Community Relations Responsibility :
  • Exhibits and models the characteristics of a Christian professional
  • Participates in program and University-wide service activities


Staffing/Labor/Supervisory Responsibility :
  • Human resource management to ensure excellence in teaching for students

  • Manages selection, evaluation, and mentorship of department faculty and staff
  • Oversees all course instruction, department technology, and employee scheduling


Qualifications
What Will You Need:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Academic Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD or equivalent)
  • 6-years of full-time higher education experience (minimum of three years of full-time experience in a physical therapist education program)
  • Must hold the rank of associate professor or professor
  • Licensed in any United States jurisdiction as a physical therapist
  • Eligibility for current licensure in State of Florida as a physical therapist
  • Initially certified as a physical therapist through the NPTE
