Data Product Lead - Structured Databases Location: Montreal - In Office

Job Overview

We are seeking a data-driven, business-savvy Data Product Lead to lead Valnet's network-wide structured-database initiative (film/TV, gaming, aviation, sports, etc.). Reporting to the Screen Portfolio Manager, you will acquire, model, and analyse data for multiple verticals, powering rich DB pages that unlock traffic, revenue, and product innovation across all brands.

Responsibilities

Data Acquisition & Insights
  • Source and integrate third-party APIs (e.g., Cirium, FlightAware, Sportradar, RAWG, Gracenote) or build compliant scrapers when no API exists.
  • Design scalable schemas for aircraft, airlines, airports, games, TV schedules, teams, players, actors, and more.
  • Develop predictive models and dashboards (BigQuery + Looker) to track completeness (CV-score), traffic, RPM, and API spend for every DB.
  • Identify growth opportunities by analysing keyword demand, query intent, and competitive gaps.

Business Strategy & Decision Support
  • Partner with the Portfolio Manager to prioritise DB roadmaps by traffic potential, CPM, and data availability.
  • Size TAM for new verticals and build revenue/ROI projections to justify investment.
  • Deliver competitive benchmarks against industry standards (e.g., sports-reference.com, Flightradar24, TV Insider).
  • Automate KPI reports for executive stakeholders.

Collaboration & Implementation
  • Work with tag editors to enforce tagging discipline so articles, images, and videos surface on DB pages.
  • Create processes to ensure manual clean ups of the existing data base
  • Coordinate with developers to maintain ETL pipelines (Python/Airflow) and front-end widgets (tag picker 2.0, comparison tables, route maps).
  • Present findings to executive leadership in clear, business-oriented language.

Requirements

Technical Skills
  • Strong SQL and Python (Pandas, NumPy, API wrappers, scraping libraries).
    Experience with Google Analytics 4, BigQuery, and data-visualisation tools (Looker, Power BI, Tableau).
  • Knowledge of REST/GraphQL APIs, web-scraping, and cloud ETL orchestration (Airflow or Prefect).
  • Familiarity with A/B testing, predictive modelling, and digital-ad metrics (CPM, RPM).

Soft Skills
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-starter comfortable juggling multiple projects and collaborating cross-functionally.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 + years in data science, analytics, or BI roles.
  • Experience applying machine learning or NLP to content or structured-data optimisation.
  • Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field.
  • Background in digital media, sports-tech, travel-tech, or advertising analytics is a plus.
  • Domain exposure to at least one of: aviation, gaming, sports, entertainment metadata is a plus
