About the Role
The Medical Director is a licensed physician and board eligible with experience in organ donation, organ transplantation, and/or intensive care medicine. They are responsible for providing medical management, oversight, and consultation to assist organ and tissue recovery personnel in their donor assessment, clinical management, placement, and recovery of organs for transplant. They are also responsible for advising the Indiana Donor Network Chief Operating Officer (COO), and governing and advisory boards, of organ and tissue medical issues, events, opportunities, and risks identified while consulting on donor cases. Additional responsibilities include:
Available 24/7/365 or supported by the medical director to provide medical consultation to ensure that all potential donors are thoroughly evaluated for medical suitability for donation and clinically managed to optimize organ and tissue viability and function.
Provides daily operational direction for Indiana Donor Network clinical leadership, evaluates donors, and may provide Indiana Donor Network staff with guidance for suspending efforts for organ placement, or to discontinue efforts to recover tissue as delineated within Indiana Donor Network policies
Reports, with assistance from the Indiana Donor Network regulatory compliance department, significant organ and tissue donor events and event trends in donor evaluation, management, and organ placement, to the advisory board and/or committees.
Reviews, edits, and approves pertinent Indiana Donor Network policies and procedures of a medical nature or others that are deemed necessary for the recovery of donated organs and tissues and for principal investigator requests for research organs, tissues, data and/or images.
Who We're Looking For
The incumbent must be a doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy, board eligible or currently licensed by the State of Indiana, have at least three years' experience as a surgeon performing transplant operations, or as an organ transplant physician caring for transplant recipients or a critical care specialist with experience in donor management.
