Associate Professor of Public Health

Job Summary:
The University of San Francisco (USF) is searching for a term associate professor or professor to join the public health program in the Health Professions Department within the School of Nursing and Health Professions. The public health programs include a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and a Master of Public Health degrees, and faculty teach across both programs. The faculty position carries with it an expectation for excellence in teaching and academic and professional service. As a senior faculty member, administrative duties may be required with time release for administrative responsibilities as required to meet the needs of the MPH program. The MPH program is a two year, six semester program that is delivered throughout the year including fall, spring, and summer semesters. The mission of the MPH Program at USF is to improve the health of local and global populations, particularly the underserved and vulnerable, through innovative and inspired research, service, and teaching that is grounded in education of the whole person to be a change agent who strives for excellence in all pursuits. The mission of the BSPH Program at
USF is to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to improve population health outcomes through careers in public health and prepare them for further professional training or graduate education in public health and related fields. Students will develop their understanding and ability to identify social and structural determinants of public health, address health inequities, and promote health as a human right.

Full Job Description:

Successful candidates will be expected to engage in classroom teaching and perform service that will contribute to the program, school, and university. As a senior faculty, administrative responsibilities may also be assigned which could include MPH Program Director. Program Directors in SONHP are faculty positions and serve as core faculty members in the programs in which they are assigned. The program director is responsible for day to day operations of the MPH program including recruitment and mentoring of part-time faculty, creating course schedules and teaching assignments, coordinating student advising, addressing student concerns, attending recruitment events, leading orientation events, supporting ongoing program evaluation efforts and reports, maintaining compliance with program accreditation requirements, leading faculty and staff meetings, coordinating with various units within SONHP and across the university, and other duties associated with program operations.

Appointment will be made at the Associate or Professor level, depending on years of teaching experience.

Additional Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Requirements
  • A Doctorate in any area of Public Health including Health Policy and Management, Global Health, Epidemiology, Health Education and Promotion, Environmental Health, or Social/Behavioral Health.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching
  • Experience and commitment to work in a culturally diverse environment
  • Demonstrated success in program and university service
  • Previous administrative experience
