OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Senior Manager, National Material Quality, the Manager, Recycling Materials Audit - AB is responsible for managing the execution of material composition auditing and monitoring activities that Circular Materials (CM) will be carrying out at various points in the process of collecting and processing Packaging, Packaging-like and Paper Products (PPP). In this role, the Manager will train audit team staff, oversee sampling and auditing schedules, provide Quality Assurance/Quality Control review of audit outputs, assist with planning for future audit needs, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develops a thorough understanding of, and contributes to refinements of CM's sampling, auditing and monitoring protocols and procedures.
  • Manages the execution of sampling, auditing and monitoring plans.
  • Ensures Audit Team Leads, and audit teams are appropriately trained and equipped.
  • Ensures work is undertaken safely, and in accordance with CM and facility Health & Safety protocols.
  • Coordinates audit scheduling.
  • Monitors integrity of audit data collection, recording and reporting.
  • Audit data analysis.
  • Routinely does site visits to oversee the execution of sampling, auditing and monitoring plans, which may include:
  • Collection of samples of inbound and outbound materials at pre-conditioning facilities,
  • Auditing (i.e. sorting for composition analysis) of pre- and post-processed PPP materials and residual materials at post-collection partner facilities and/or dedicated audit facilities,
  • Observation of audits undertaken by service providers and other stakeholders,
  • Observation of post-collection partner operations,
  • Testing and refinement of auditing protocols and plans, and,
  • Testing new technologies.
  • Represents CM in a professional manner inside and outside of CM audit facilities.
  • Identifies continuous improvement opportunities within the department.
  • Fosters a positive working environment.
  • Oversee a team of audit staff to ensure the effective fulfillment of objectives assigned to them while ensuring flexibility to move swiftly in response to unplanned operational challenges and opportunities.
  • Mentor, coach and effectively manage the performance of direct reports, ensuring succession planning strategies exist to mitigate service disruptions.
  • Prepare accurate, timely and data driven reports as tasked.
  • Publicly support strategic decision making and operations while acting as a positive and contributing member of the management team.
  • Other duties as may be required from time-to-time, including attendance at events, and third-party meetings as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • Bachelor's degree, college diploma or equivalent management experience in a related field is required.
  • Continuing education and professional development in project management is an asset.
  • Trained in the practical and advanced use of applicable software or related technological tools.

Experience
  • 5+ years waste and recycling composition auditing experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience is an asset.

Knowledge/Competencies/Skills
  • Knowledge of waste management services and processes related to PPP materials.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, Visio, SharePoint, Teams, Excel and Jira.
  • Proven experience in managing competing priorities with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment where change, growth and innovation are a constant.
  • Excellent interpersonal skill with strength in tactfulness and diplomacy.
  • Builds relationships and teams thanks to collaborative and respectful interpersonal skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • All CM employees work 40 hours per week, remotely from a home office environment.
  • This role requires field work. As a result, there will be some variability in scheduling to accommodate operational needs.
  • Extra or flexible hours may be required on occasion.
  • The job demands that the incumbent have a flexible work schedule with periods of uneven workload. This role may involve overnight travel to sites throughout Alberta.
  • Meetings with stakeholders in multiple Canadian time zones may be required.
  • Remote and Field Work. The role is remote based and requires travel to stakeholder sites across Alberta.
  • A valid Driver's License is required. Requires travel to sites (e.g. PCFs, audit facilities, transfer stations) across Alberta.
